Jucing/Supplements and Sensitve Bowels
Calling all nature freaks! (I mean that it the very best way!!)
Does supplements and juicing cause much problems for your sensitive semi-colon?
My bowels are still adjusting post treatment. I go someties between 5-10 times a day. It is not diarrhea, thankfully. But the urge to go is there often nonetheless.
I feel like my juicing and supplements sometimes can increase this problem.
My naturopath warned me that a calcium/magnesium supplement might cause me problems and sure enough it did. I now take one without the magnesium. I think maybe Cod liver oil also doesn't like me. I take so much stuff...I can't really tell what causes the problem...but I know some days I take a break and things settle down.
Its just hard going so much. Oh and I have really bad gas to boot. Ah...good times...
But I want to get on juicing and supplements, but I don't want to iritate things down there by going so much.
Thanks for any help or advice,
Maria : )

Hi Maria,
I don't know what to tell you. Since my reversal in January, there are days I regret having it done. I live by myself (no I am not alone!!!!!) and since I have completely changed my diet, I can be fine one day and not the next.
When was your resection? I sense it may take a year or 2 for my colon/rectum to get used to it's new state. I think having a foot removed lower in the tract is more bothersome for some reason, but maybe I am wrong.
I look forward to what our other wonderful friends have to say.

Hey Maria,
Here is a bit of my info...Don't think I can quite call it wisdom. Cal/Mag can be a huge culprit in the: must run to the bathroom department; to be honest, though, it has nothing to do with our colon cancer...It is the nature of the supplement. Juicing has never caused me to have problems. My intestines really like juicing. What causes me gas or a run to the bathroom is when I eat junk and when I really go out of my usual routine; example: I cannot eat traditional sushi anymore -- too much protein and refined white flour for my intestines. If you haven't added chlorella to your list of supplements, I would think about it. It is so good for alkalizing the system and it is really helps to keep the natural flora killed off by chemo in good form. It sounds so odd, but I really feel better on it; hope I am not confusing the issue of your questions by adding the possibility of another supplement...
All the best to you; and, p;ease, do keep juicing in your thoughts. I do enjoy it very much...Did a carrot, apple, orange celery concoction today and have been adding cucumber too...It is really fun and is so empowering -- feel like I am making an impact on my own care.

Sorry; meant white rice with the sushi thing, but white flour and white sugar are not good for me either.CAMaura said:Hey Maria,

I only have trouble with juicing when I'm on chemo, but I don't think it's the juice that's the problem then.
Maybe the thing to do is to stop everything and when you feel well add one thing at a time. That's what I've been trying to do with the supplements that my naturopath has recommended. As a matter of fact, if she says twice a day I try it once a day first and if things are going ok i increase to twice a day.
Hang in there and good luck!
