HER-2 neg Breast Cancer

HER-2 negative is the one to have. Even tho there is Herceptin for it in the press lately, it's a big deal because before there was not alot to do for HER-2 positive bc. ER neg means it doesn't respond to Estrogen...on the bright side, this means that the Tomoxifen/Arimidex/Femara 5 year drug thing is not needed.
As far as treatment,I think that it is more dependant on the stage of BC...3 and 4 get chemo/rad, and if 2 with nodes, most of the time...call 1-800-ACS2345....American Cancer Society...I had a gal that went TOTALLY thru my pathology report on my breast cancer with me, explained EVERYTHING...1 hour!

Kathi explained it well. I, too, am fortunate to be Her2 negative. Was she also PR negative? I do believe the latest research points to treating almost all ER/PR negative breast cancer with some type of chemo because it responds to chemo so well.KathiM said:HER-2 negative is the one to have. First off according to the size, it could be as simple as a small surgery to remove the lump. Or it could also require Chemo. I think the common treatments are A/C & Taxol. Has your friend sat down with her oncologist yet. I know I had my surgeon set up an appointment with my oncologist even before my surgery. It really helped me understand the potential paths I would need to take even before we had the final path reports.
Write lots of questions down and check them off when you see the Oncologist. It really helps to bring someone with you as well, who may hear more clearly what is being said. Sometimes it is hard to process what is being said and also keep all the details in tact. Good luck to your friend0
