saline implants?

I had a right side mastectomy almost 4 years ago. I've been thinking about having a prophylactic mastectomy done on the left, and getting saline implants. I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has had that type of implant, or had a prophylactic mastectomy - are you happy you did it? Do you wish you had done something else? thanks!!!!

    Shelly~ I had a friend who had the saline implants..she has had a terrible time with them. they leaked,they deflated and she opted to not have them replaced....(she is a 22 yr survivor). just alittle insight for you.

    Shelly--A friend of mine had saline and didn't like the look...high on her breast and like a ball. I got silicone and it's very natural. Talk to your plastic surgeon!

    I had a bilateral mastectomy on 5/12/06 and had immediate reconstruction. Right now I have saline expanders in and I'm looking forward to when I can get my permanents in. I only had ILC in my right breast but because of what I read about the cancer and my risk I decided to have both breast removed. I won't lie and tell you there is nothing to it but its not to bad. My doctor made sure I had pain pills and muscle relaxers and I'm sure that helped me through the first weeks. Another bad thing is I had to sleep on my back for a while. It does sometimes feel like I have two tennis balls taped to my chest and then other times I hardly notice anything. I'm planning on getting silicone for my permanent implants but there is a new style out I think it is called "gummy bears"?, not sure. I had a skin sparing mastectomy, I don't have any feeling in my breast but my nipples still respond to stimulus and my husband is glad of that. :-) I'm glad I did it, but research your options before you make decision. And congradulations on being a 4yr survivor!

    I know several people in support group who have had implants. Everyone of them is glad to have done it. All who did both, choose a smaller size and thove over 40/45 seem to skip the nipple if that has been removed as part of matectomy. Big area of comment is on the under arm area. If you have extra flesh there, ask about lyposuction of that at the same time, or you can feel like you have flotation devices in your pits. Me, I had one side off and didn't have the option of implants.
