i had cancer of the cervix and then after extensive surgery three months later kidney cancer. I have a colostomy and a neo bladder and find it very hard to be around people because of this. It has now been two years and i still panic when i have to leave my home to go to any event

    HI,
I am a 53 year old female. I have had my right kidney and bladder removed. I have a urostomy. I have traveled all over the world with my urostomy. What frightens you? Have you gone to any ostomy groups? There are a lot of us out there.

I'm so sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hopefully over time, you will regain your confidence and enjoy the company of others. I wish there was something more I could say to help.

    Hi,

I often feel that The Big C doesn't so much stand for cancer but for the Big Challenge that rides with it.

OK so it has undermined your confidence - YOU have done nothing wrong and if THEY can't cope then THEY are a lot more ill than you and I.

Most of the people you meet when you go out will follow down the same or a similar path in the future - be up front and show them how to do it.

Good luck - and don't say it is all very well for you - I'm male 60 radical nephrectomy Sept. 2001 - ongoing bladder cancer and I've had so many scopes by so many nurses I'm beginning to feel left out I'm damn sure they are showing a movie in my bladder - everyone else seems to have found their way in!

Good luck and let us all know of the events you now go to - it sure to hell encourages the rest of us!

    Regards,
    Greg L-W.
