Hi I dont know if you have considered Hospice yet or if your not ready for Hospice you can get something called Bridge Hospice and he can still try other treatments. But when we knew the chemo was not working on my dad we called in Hospice and they helped him with him pain. He was on Oxycotin, Morphine and that controlled his pain. When the pain came back they gave him stronger dosages. Its so important to give the pain meds every 4 hours so you dont have break through pain. With all the medicines out there he should not have to suffer with pain.0

My husband is also Stage IV and has extreme pain in abdomen area--has since beginning--it is so extreme he cannot lay down-was sleeping in recliner for couple of months until they diagnosed him - talk to a pain clinic. His pain is controlled and you canot tell he is on pain meds because he needs them. He takes oxycontin and neurontin daily.....email me if you want more details.

I have had the extreme pain in my right shoulder. Not sure what the cause was, but onc ordered CT scan which turned out negative. The only thing I had that would even touch the intense pain was a pain pill every 4 to 6 hours. The antinflamatories just didn't work. After about 4 days, the pain got better and just went away. I hope this helps. jams0

The others are right. They should be able to control the pain much better. Sometimes they need to be pushed to do that. My sister was on a Hospice unit in a hospital and having pain until I questioned them as to why they were asking her pain level and then dosing instead of regular doses around the clock with added supplements if needed.
Hang in there.

Sorry to hear about your dads pain. I have been on Avastin and had no pain like that and I am presently on Erbitux, again no side effects, besides acne like rash on face and torso. I did at one time experience extreme right shoulder pain. I iinsisted it was because of the portocath, and eventually, they believed me and I had minor surgery to move it andf it had been affecting some nerve in there. No p[roblem since then. Worth considering mayne. That pain was very harsh and extemely debilitating. Good luck to you and your dad.

The oncologist finally put my dad on oxycontin yesterday. He actually slept in a bed for the first time in weeks. It was great. The only down side is that he is a little out of it on the medicine and has trouble walking straight. He didnt leave the house all day yesterday because he slept. Hopefully today will be better. He goes tomorrow to see if there is a problem with the port to see if that is why he is having the pain. Hopefully that will be OK. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I will have my dad ask about the neurontin in addition to the oxycontin if he needs it.dash4 said:My husband is also Stage IV and has extreme pain in abdomen area--has since beginning--it is so extreme he cannot lay down-was sleeping in recliner for couple of months until they diagnosed him - talk to a pain clinic.
