Hi everyone, just a couple of questions, I have been having a lot of bowl movements lately, is this normal, and also my voice when I talk is getting horse, people have said that I should not be the horse over a month from the hospital. I asked the oncologist and he looked in my throat, did not say anything, should I ask for scope down my throat, someone that I talked to yesterday on the telepone said that it could be acid reflux and it is caused by stress, that I should see a doctor about it.
let me know what you all think
thanks from Ohio

ladybug, I don't know your dx or treatment history, but can tell you of my husband's experience. He has a temporary ileostomy which presents some intriguing bowel habits depending on the time of day and exactly what he eats. Also, he is very hoarse for the first 24 hours after day 1 of chemo (oxypalatin). Don't know if his experience coincides with yours, but maybe that will help. Hang in there....it usually gets better.

Aw, ladybug....It never hurts to ask...I always call my onc and say...'OK, I'm having another bit of canceritis' (the sensitivity to ANY changes)....she understands, and makes an appointment. One of the good things about meeting the beast, we become more vigilant about our body changes...try your primary care...mine checked out a hip problem (I, of course, thought it was the beast back for try #3). It turned out it was just a muscle pull...WHEW!

    Lady bug,

I would definitely ask your doctor about your concerns. It will help put your mind at ease.

    God bless,

    Ahoy ladybug -

The two (hoarse and lots of bowel movements)may actually be linked. My first line of defense would be to ensure your husband is downing at last 3-4 liters of water every day. That's water - not something mixed with water - just plain ole water.

Lots of BMs can mean lots of fluid loss and accompanying dehydration. Dehydration will often have a most obvious impact on mucous membranes like the throat. Certainly talk to your onc about it, but in the mean time try pumping down that H2O - make the Waterboy proud!

    Cheers
