I do not post very often, but read all posts daily. My husband originally dx 09/02 then mets to lungs 05/05 went today for his PET results. The mets are adapting to the current meds 5fu/leucovorin/camptosar with Avastin. Was on Oxiplatin (sp) for about 3-months after mets dx, side effect pretty bad so changed to Camptosar So now they will change to Xeloda. He had been doing well up until now, I guess your body always adapts to the meds. On a positive note no further mets and he feels great. I am just so scared for him, I can only hope the Xeloda helps and melts them away to nothing and he can visit with NED. Just wanted a little boo hoo and who better to discuss this with other than the people who truely understand. I know there are a few of you out there Stage IV with mets to lungs, whats meds have you been given and has anybody been visited by NED who has similar dx? Keep up the good fight against this beast
always keeping you in my thoughts and prayers

    Hi,
Wanted to respodn to your post. I did not have mets to lungs but to liver. I am a stage 4 survivor. Dz 3/05 had surgery a week later, chemo and radiation starting 4 weeks after the surgery. I had Oxaliplatin, Xeloda, and Avastin with an RFA Ablation in 8/05 to eliminate the remaing two tumors(I had 8 in my liver). These meds seem to work for me. I had them all the same time in poweful doses. But now since 2/06 I am thank God, NED.
I hope this helps. Be glad to talk more.
    Take care,
    Mark

    Hi Debbie,

I was dxed stage IV rectal ca in March of 04 with one met to my left lung and 3 in my liver. Surgery was not an option so I did 8 months of chemo (oxil with leucovorin, 5FU and avastin). I couldn't do the chemo anymore and after my onc told me there was no end in sight for it, I stopped it. I had found a local naturopathic doctor with a PhD in clinical nutrition, went organic/natural, juiced twice daily and followed her recommendations on vitamin/mineral/herbal supplements mid Nov 04. 15 months after I stopped chemo, I had 2 straight NED reports and we decided to reverse my colostomy bag. While in the surgery, they removed the foot of my colon/rectum where the original mass had been, took out the lymph nodes and eyeballed my liver for possible resection. The liver was clean as were all the lymph nodes but they did find a microscopic tumor where the original rectal mass had been. NOW, I have been NED since January 06.

I'm a caregiver like you; my husand is fighting colorectal cancer. For now things are okay, he's NED but taking post-op chemo (Oxiplatin); has had 2 of 12 treatments. Also, he's contending with an ileostomy which we hope to have reversed when the chemo ends. We should finish in mid-November if he can make it through. I sympathize with your fear. Even though things are okay for us at the moment, I am terrified of recurrence. I've read so much on this site from others who've been fine, then 2 or 3 years down the road, the monster resurfaces and the fight is harder. I am praying for you and your husband. Be strong; I DO believe attitude is 99% of the fight.
