    Hi Bruce,

I feel your pain. I still have to loose 30lbs. Have you tried a healthy diet with fruit and veggies and not so much bread. Some protein thrown in? The juicing is good for nutrition but not really a "diet". Since it is hard to exercise, maybe try taking walks? Of course nothing with sugar. Watch your portions too and no snacks between meals. Also a good thing to do is not eat after 7pm since that is when most matabolisms shut down then. Good luck and tell me how it goes. Once I get off chemo I'm going to go back to my healthy diet. Take care.

Bruce, the best way to lose weight in a healthy fashion is to reduce the calories going in and increase your expenditure (excercise). If your knees are bad tehn you need to find a low impact way to work out...if you can walk that is great. A health club will provide access to a pool (water workouts, even if you are not a great swimmer are available and very popular with people who cannot withstand impact. You should join water aerobic classes if possible and do them every day! Make it like taking your vitamins...just do it every day! I love it run...most of the time...but I do it almost every morning just like I take my vitamins! As for diet....eat breakfast!!! Whole grain cereals, yogurt and fruit to get your metabolism going (and get you ready for your work-out). Cut out processed and restaurant foods for the most part and make healthy sandwiches out of whole wheat bread for lunch (turkey, natural peanut butter). Just keep your dinner portions small and no dessert (have fruit after dinner...like the Italians). Hope this helps a little! keep us up on your progress.

Bruce, Runner has it right - that is good advice. Right now I have the opposite problem since coming out of surgery but just as I lost, I am starting to gain now and expect to get back to my correct weight. I cut all the sugar. buy Stevia and learn to like it. Read ingredients before u buy. some wheat breads have more sugar than do the white breads. It was suggested to me to stay away from white things. sugar, white rice, white pasta, white bread. I use whole wheat pasta and ground turkey instead of beef and it is quite good. experiment a bit. the juicing for me is more about getting good vitamins and enzymes for healthy cell growth.
    good Luck

Separate your meal into 2 portions if you are eating out. Take the other part home to eat later. It is so tempting to eat until you are full, but if you wait 20 min. after eating a half portion, you'll find that you're glad you ate less. Eat inbetween meals, but only fruit or something very small. Just keep your glucose level even, and you won't feel that huge craving for food at every meal. jams

    Bruce,
My beau's son was 65 pounds overweight, 330 (!!!) cholesterol, and a diabetic. He has, to date, lost 50 pounds, eats VERY healthy....the 4 food groups..
http://www.mypyramid.gov/ is the USDA's tracking site....if you work it (it is a bit tedious...you MUST put in EVERYTHING, and MEASURE everything..etc) it gets results...
Not only did he lose this weight, but his cholesterol is now...believe it or not...160!
    Hugs, Kathi
