I'm Scared

Next Tuesday, I'm having core biopsy using ultrasound for a dense tissue mass in right breast. The surgeon yesterday upon exam said the mass moves around freely, which is a good sign? Women I've shared this with have said that they all know others who have had biopsies with no cancer diagnosis. I'm just now going on with my life (I'm 45) after my husband died last summer from kidney cancer. We have an 11 year daughter together and I've haven't said anything to her about my tests. I pray it's not cancer!!

    Two years prior to my cancer diagnosis I had lump in my left breast that also moved around freely. The biopsy on that came back benign. After getting a positive cancer diagnosis on the right breast, I had the benign left breast lump removed.

    I know it is difficult, but try not to worry. My prayers will be with you next Tuesday.

    Eighty percent of all breast lumps are benign. That means the odds are in your favor. And we'll all be praying that you're part of that 80% majority.

    Yes, I have heard of many that fit the no cancer diagnosis...but it's soooo brave of you to see this thru. And to be thinking about protecting your daughter from undue worry...WOW! What a mom! I do hope you have some support close by...we are here, but I'm talking a warm body...I had a WONDERFUL girlfriend that just gave me a hug when I needed it (shes a double mastectomy survivor).
    You might think about what to say to your daughter after the biopsy, tho, you will be having some discomfort possibly...and kids pick up on stuff very easily...maybe something really low key...don't want to worry her if nothing to worry about....
    PLEASE keep us posted...we ARE your extended family, after all!!!!

    So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband last summer. I know it's got to be really scary for you to think that you may now have this dreadful disease. Researchers have made great strides on fighting breast cancer and there are MANY new drugs out there that can reduce your risk of recurrance - especially if you fall into the hormone positive group.

    I had a core biopsy at 36. Although it sounds scary, the procedure itself is not painful and goes quite quickly. My lump moved around my breast freely too - unfortunately for me it did turn out to be IDC. I know the fear you have right now and waiting truly sucks. Try to remember it may very well NOT be cancer but, if it is, YOU CAN BEAT IT.

    Hope your results will come back clean. I had a lump about 30 years ago that was not a problem. Most of the women who find lumps find out that they are not a problem. So let's hope that yours will turn out just fine. You need a break. For me 30 years later there was a lump and I wasn't so lucky. But if you do have a problem, know that there are many of us here who have lived through it and are getting on with the rest of our lives.
