hi all - i am doing my very first Relay for Life in June. My boss is going to sponsor the team & we are deciding on what to do for a fundraiser during the event. i can't wait!! and my father just finished rads for prostate cancer (he's 75) and he & i are going to walk the survivor's lap together. i think he and my mom will come back for the luminaria ceremony, but not sure - it will be a long day for them. i've never even been to a relay, but from what i've heard, there will be a great turnout for it. :-)

Glad to hear you are going to your first Relay for Life. Our local Relay is in June also, and it is going to be my sixth one and it gets very emotional. They have a dinner for the survivors after the survivor lap. Where are you from...maybe you will be in the same relay as I will be.....Hughesville, Pa.

Yup, my first was REALLY special, and my second, and my third....YIKES! I am up to 6, too!
Survivor lap is soooo cool! This last one,I ended up walking with people after that lap for another 4 miles...and I was just there to be helping the Advocacy booth of the ACS...
It is a VERY uplifting experience, no matter how many you have attended.
Hugs to you, your dad, and your mom...

Seems like kids type events worked well at our Relay. A train on the track seems to always be running....Not sure of your location though. Face painting went well early on. I have some wonderful pics of my daughters painted as butterflies.

I walk the survivor laps-and the next two each year. maybe someday my hubby will be there for me. (thats a different discussion-I would rather not get into)

The luminaria ceremony is quite emotional-I usually spend it hugging someone. I took pics of the bags lit up spelling 'HOPE'-turned out really neat. I will do it with a tripod next year for a better result.

Glad your boss is rising to the occasion!

Love to you and your family,
