I want to thank everyone who responded to my question about having an ostomy...I'm a person who always needs to hear the truth no matter how hard it may be..I know that I have no choice but to accept the outcome after surgery and I am prepared to do so.... Hearing from people who have been there is so very helpful to me. Especially knowing that I will be able to continue doing the things I love...
Right now I'm waiting for surgery... It's been really difficult because chemo/radiation is over and now I'm sitting and waiting...The waiting is hard..Actually it sucks...
I've been reading all the messages for approximately two months now and I smile everytime..This site has been a godsend to me...

Hi Ms. Karen,
I SO know what you mean... My mom is stage IV and I truely believe that she is handling things "much better" than I (her daughter) probably ever could.
Many of her doctor's lead me to this site and now; I literally do not know what I would do without it! Everyone here is just so absolutely amazing!
And I now believe that hearing the words "you have cancer" is not a death sentence; but a mode of survival and strength that you take on both mentally and physically.
Thank you for you post as well; you sound like an incredible woman yourself!
Have a safe and happy upcoming Memorial Day Weekend!
Love Always,

I have had my colostomy for 16 months. I would not have picked any of this. But, on a positive note, I went on a cruise when I was only 7 weeks postop and went snorkeling. I still had 2 small open areas in my incision due to a post op infection. I have survived and you will too.
Hang in there, keep us posted and email me if you have any specific questions.
