hi. im new to this site but ive been lookin for someone to help me. im 19 and my boyfriend(who's 22) was diagnosed with lung cancer back in february. hes been goin thru chemo and radiation since feb 28. well, not chemo the last few weeks because the doc wont give it to him unless he gets back over 120 lbs. i dont kno how to help him. i try to b optimistic and tell him it will all work itself out but he usually snaps at me and says im ignoring how bad it is.

its gettin so hard. he told me today that there are signs the cancer is spreading to his other lung and the doc isnt optimistic about it not speadin to other organs and into his bones, especially his back. i dont kno wat to do. to make things even more complicated its a long distance relationship...im in ND and he lives in NYC. i havnt had to deal with anything like this before in my family.

My boyfried has been living, and continues to, with his gandfather and takin care of him for the last 3 years, ever since his parents moved to florida. so he doesnt hav much support, if any, especially since his grandfather's health has been declining recently. my boy friend has always been an independant person and had planned on startin law school this fall. now he cant even work because of the pain and fatigue.

if someone could give me ideas i would greatly appreciate it. thanks

  • Angel, your boyfriend needs to begin by getting in touch with the American Cancer Society in his area.
They will put him in touch with all kinds of practical help for daily living for both him and his grandfather so that your boyfriend can concentrate on his own healing.
None of us can do this alone (I have been a cancer survivor for 20 years and still need help and support).
It must be terribly hard for you not to be able to be with him right now. I am sorry about that. Just keep in touch with him and let him know you care often, even when he is not able to respond to you in the positive way you might expect.
God bless and keep you both.
