I don't really like reading statistics especially when my friend has two lesions the size of ping pong balls in his liver among several other smaller ones as well as metastesis in both lungs. Reading stuff like that makes me think there is no hope for him. I only hope the lesions will shrink down to an operable size.0

ODDS ARE FOR VEGAS!!!
EXPIRATION DATES ARE FOR DAIRY PRODUCTS!!
IF DOCS ARE THAT "GOOD"....ASK THEM FOR WINNING LOTTERY NUMBERS, TOO!
PICKING NUMBERS SHOULD BE RESERVED FOR "DEAL OR NO DEAL"
Ok, I'm stopping....but you get my drift! lol

I have listened today the radio show over the computer about cancer. A doctor interviewed an author of the book "Outsmart your cancer". The book is about alternative methods of treating cancer. They also talked about cancer statistics in this country. And it turns out that statistics are way overexaggerated. For example, they say that if cancer does not return within 5 years, it is considered cured and they count it as cured. However, this person may get it back after 5 years and 1 month but it does not go into statistics. They also said that there are some forms of cancer, lung cancer for example, that they do not include in statistics at all because they think it is self-induced which is not always true. So, the whole idea about statistics as we may have heard or know is not reliable.0

ok all~ my very deep apologies for making you uncomfortable with the statistics...I was trying to think of a way to phrase it differently, but I was afraid if I just put things in my own words I ran the risk of inaccurate information, just based on my own interpretations. That did not seem fair either. I will delete this and try to phrase it differently...But please know my *only intention was to let anyone who was interested know about what seemed like a very powerful tool.

I could not get on the site. I did go to the MD Anderson web site and searched by researcher and Dr. Abdalla's name was not found. I would like to read his report.calica said:ok all~ my very deep apologies for making you uncomfortable with the statistics...I was trying to think of a way to phrase it differently, but I was afraid if I just put things in my own words I ran the risk of inaccurate information, just based on my own interpretations. We weren't ripping on you....just the data, and those who think they're good at predicting outcomes.
It was nice of you to forward the information.
Thanks,

Calica,
Thank you for posting these statistics. They are certainly more encouraging that other stats I have seen for metastatic colon cancer. I had one met to the liver (resected) and two mets to the lungs (resected as well). I would gladly take 58% and 71.5% is even better. I think I was given around 30%, but hey, like I told my doctor, I am going to be one of those 30%!
