Diagnosis

I was wondering if someone here could give me some advice on several conditions I have been having for a year now. First I suffered from fatigue and occasional pain in my lymph nodes (no swelling) in my face and neck over the past year associated with no other possible cold or flu symptoms. This went on and off over 9 months. I went to the doctor and he said it was probably some acid reflux causing irritation to my throat. Secondly within the last three months my mouth started salivating excessively all day long. It was so bad that I could not talk with people without saliva sometimes spraying from my mouth. After the first month my tongue started to swell in the back at the base and became very sore and red on one side. I finally called an ENT and went for a visit. The ENT sticks this tube down my nose to observe my throat and say I have nothing. He sends me to an allergist suggesting that maybe it is all a food allergy. Anyway the condition continues and I start to miss several days of work here and there because I am just not feeling too well. Over a three month period I missed almost 3 weeks of work because I am in sales and I need to talk but I can not because of the pain and excessive salivation. Finally I get to the allergist and she says I do NOT have a food allergy, so she runs some tests on my immune system of which I am still awaiting the results. She also gives me a prescription of Famvir, a viral suppressant. I know I do not have AIDS because I was tested with my wife when we did the IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) and I have only had sex with my wife for the past 20 years. Now that I have spent a year not physically 100% and though I am feeling a bit better and the swelling has subsided a bit in my tongue, I am beginning to wonder if maybe I have cancer or something else and I have to wait until it rears its ugly head before I will ever know.

    I think you are very smart to keep on checking into this. My husband had some of same symtoms and finally a surgeon put him to sleep so he could look down in his throat. The surgeon did find cancer tucked in down behind the area where the tongue is attached at its base. Hope you find an answer, and I hope it isn't cancer. I admire your persistance

    I don't know if you are still checking this message but you may want to check w/ a dentist. My Mom was having swelling of her tongue and pain in her mouth. She went to the doctor and they said it was probably an infection of some sort. It didn't go away w/ antibiotics so she went back and they sent her to a dentist who spotted the cancer right away. I hope this is not what you have, but sometimes it's much easier for them to spot something out of the ordinary in the mouth. I hope that's not what it is and I wish you all the best.
