Am I a Survivor

I was recently diagnosed with Melanoma. I'm not sure of my type (forgot to ask), but it was very shallow, .32 percent deep. My mind can not take in this information that I have cancer. But do I really, can I call myself a cancer patient when all they are doing is cutting away at my skin and nothing more...dramatic...?

Yes you are a survivor. Fortunately your melanoma was caught early and your prognosis is excellent but it is important that you have regular follow up appointments with a dermatologist. In addition to this site, you might also want to visit the MPIP which is a site for people with melanoma and their caregivers. The web address is http://www.mpip.org/bb/bbindex.html There is a very active community on that site with particpants from all stages. I have stage III melanoma (thick primary, one positive lymph node) and am doing well. Best of luck, Carver0

I don't have an answer for you, but I feel the same way. I almost feel guilty saying I am a cancer survivor when all I had to go through was the minor surgery.0
