Scars after Bilateral

I had a bilateral masectomy and they used muscle from my back to begin my reconstruction. I am wondering what anyone else has used to put on the scars to make them heal faster and appear less visible. I had this surgery Oct.31st so the scars are somewhat new. I will be having the reconstruction on May 26th,if there is anyone out there who can share how there experience was I would greatly appreciate it.God Bless to you all.

    I had a lat dorsi flap. My surgeon had me use scar guard

    Here's something I pulled off the web to explain it.
    Scar Guard is a liquid that forms a clear, protective film over a scar while delivering hydrocortisone, vitamin E and silicone, all known to help reduce scar tissue.

    Worked well for me. Even used it on some old scars with improvement. Used two bottles over several weeks and then switched to pure cocoa butter.

    I used straight vitamin E oil. Rubbed in 3 times a day. My scars are VERY hard to see. Even the one on my tummy that they had to re-open to remove a bowel obstruction.

    I used Aquaphor Healing Ointment on not just my scars but on my burns from radiation. I love this stuff and keep it around all the time.

    Now if only it would work on healing my wrinkles....wrinkles I didn't have before chemo, I might add.

    Hi and congrats on being a survivor!
    I used pure SHEA butter. I can hardly see my scars which were done last May. Plus the Shea butter is a great skin moisturiser(sp).I use it on my whole body.

    I also had a bilateral (by choice)and recon. with silicone implants. I see that you have received some great advice regarding what to use on your scars, but here's a little beauty secret that I will share with you until your scars are less noticable. I use a 16 hour concealer made by Almay. It's called "Almay Amazing Lasting 16 Hour Concealer". It comes in a tube about the size of mascara, with a soft wand much like that used for lip gloss. You can find it with all the other Almay face makeup. I am very fair so I use the lightest shade. It really kicks butt as a cover for scars. It's much like the "white-out" used in offices, but it's made for your face in flesh tones. It totally dries super fast and doesn't rub off on your clothes. Great stuff! And while I'm at it, here's another product you may want to try one day. I use it until my nipple tatoo is redone (mine faded a bit since '01), and this rocks!! Again, it can be found in makeup aisle. Look for MaxFactor Lipfinity Everlites (in the lipstick section), shade 180 works best for me but there's lots of choices so experiment to see what works best for you. Again, this color lasts AT LEAST 24 hours, and does not rub off. Lipfinity comes with 2 tubes in the package - I only use the one with color. The other tube is merely a clear lipgloss which you can use on your lips or discard. I just dab the color around my reconstructed nipple and blend with a fingertip to simulate a aerola. My doctor can't even tell that I use these products. He just thinks my breats look great. Men....they are sooo easy to fool!!!!

    It appears you have had your reconstruction with silicon implants in 2000? If yes, have you had any issues with the implants since then? such as small local infections?
