sad day
"Rest quietly my dear friend........until we meet again",
I did not really say goodbye because I BELIEVE that we will be together one day.

You are a good and loyal friend. For the sake of those folks who weren't privvy to our off-net e-mail on this, I'll resend my anecdote...
Why Dogs Don't Live Longer Than People
Being a veterinarian, I was called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.
I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home. As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the
four-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.
The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.
We sat together for awhile after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."
Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.
He said, "People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?" The four-year-old continued, "Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply, Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.0 -
Ahhh Ross...You are a good person, a role model. Friends such as you can help those losing the battle, and those who love them, feel more comfortable as their grip on this world loosens. You never gave up on Janette, and that helped her never give up as well. May God grant you peace and ease your soul.
Take care. Jimmy0 -

Kanga, I am so sorry to hear your news. It is always sad to go to this forum and read of the death of a friend or loved one. We always try to be so optimistic and hopeful but it is not always to be. I am sure your friend has appreciated your support throughout the friendship. That is all we can do....be there for anyone, friend or loved one, who is experiencing any debilitating illness.
Take care,

Ross,
I just heard a song the other day with Dolly Parton and some other country singer. I'm not sure of the name, but one verse was "When I get where I'm going there will be only happy tears."
It reminded me that when our loved ones leave us we are the ones with left with tears of sadness. Janette is free from pain and is dancing with the angels.
All my love to you and Jen,
Kay0 -
Hi Ross -
So sorry for your loss. Hopefully Janette is in a better place and I know she appreciated your friendship these last couple of years.
Take care,

Thank you all dear friends. There is always a moment in our lives when we each will face the loss of someone close to us. Although we were not often able to see each other Janette and I held the very same bond we each have here on CSN. Janette knew about you all and we often talked about the humanity and compassion that can come from knowing that we can in some way support each other...even tho we have never met.Janette was thrilled to bits to know that Jen and I are coming to meet many of you.I told her it was something I NEEDED to do.I won't be able to tell her about the wonderfull time we will have....but I won't need to...Janette will know!Betsydoglover said:Hi Ross -

Bob....thank you for your anecdote....and I have to say that it applies to cats as well. There is something we can all learn from our favourite pets. They seem to have the loving instinct build into them. We humans also have that love....unfortunately we sometimes need some pretty horrid stuff to happen before we learn to use it!kangatoo said:Thank you all dear friends. Hi Ross:
Here's the lyrics to an old American song which has brought me comfort time and again:
"A Perfect Day" (1910)
Words and Music by
Carrie Jacobs-Bond, 1862-1946
When you come to the end of a perfect day,
And you sit alone with your thought,
While the chimes ring out with a carol gay,
For the joy that the day has brought,
Do you think what the end of a perfect day
Can mean to tired heart,
When the sun goes down with a flaming ray,
And the dear hearts have to part?
Well, this is the end of a perfect day,
Near the end of a journey, too,
But it leaves a thought that is big and strong,
With a wish that is kind and true.
For mem'ry has painted this perfect day
With colors that never fade,
And we find at the end of a perfect day,
The soul of a friend we've made.0
