Friend's day Stage III Colon Cancer

My friend's dad just diagnosed with Stage III Colon Cancer. He's 80, the MD trying to say chemo may not help, not giving much hope. I suggested 2nd opinion might be in order. Told her not to give up. Tell him not to, either. She had so much pain in her voice. I cried.
It's been a year since my diagnosis. I though I was tough, but how can I help her...other than being there to listen.

    Hi being there to listen, is the best you can do for her at this time. I will pray for you all and hope that your friends Dad is at peace. Virginia.

    This all makes me so mad. People are NOT supposed to hurt like this...someone HAS to find a good, painless treatment/cure for this. (Can you tell I'm mad?) Funding has to INCREASE, not get cut by Washington...they can make the perfect bomb, think if they turned all this toward finding a cure!

    I'm here because of stage 2 colon cancer, but my dad was diagnosed with advanced stage 3 colon cancer at age 76. He went through surgery and chemo, and just passed his 5 year point last November. Suggest they get the second opinion. There is always hope.

    As for your help...listening is the best thing you can do.

    Hi Kathi,
    My mom is 83 years old and is Stage IV. She is getting chemo and handling it pretty well. If your friend's dad is willing to go to battle, he should definitely get another opinion. I agree with the previous post... there is always hope.

    Husband just diagnosed w/large rectal tumor, Stage III and all the doctors have said we are in a "curative" mode. He will start chemo & rad monday for 6 weeks, then surgery, then more chemo/rad. I agree, don't give up hope and have them ask for a 2nd opinion......we have just started up this looong hill, but are keeping our spirits and hope UP. I will keep your friends in my prayers.
