got my hepatic pump
As of this week, I had my first infusion of FUDR which will pump into me for 14 days. I will also continue with Erbitux. They will add avastin in a few weeks.
I'm hoping that the pump will shrink my seven liver tumors. The Erbitux and Avastin will keep my enlarged lymph nodes outside of the liver at bay.
It seems positive and I'm hoping that this all works.
My regards to all.

My thoughts, prayers and positive energy is being sent to you- was it painful having the hepatic pump inserted?..wonder if this might be an option for my husband.

I had my pump in since sept of 04. It really helped a lot with my treatment. There was a medical report on today's Live at Five news show out of NYC with Dr Max Gomez. They were talking about the hepatic pump and they spoke with Dr Nancy Kemeny of Sloan Kettering (my Onc) She has had fantastic results with the pump. I think you are on the right path0

Thanks Phil. On your previous posts, you mentioned your fantastic success. Do you get nauseous with the chemo drug?PhillieG said:I had my pump in since sept of 04. By the way, I was not very happy with Sloan. It seems that when you start with one oncologist, you stay with one. I saw a different oncologist and had liver surgery at Sloan. In all my visits there, no one mentioned Nancy Kemeney. It was only after I got second opinions where I heard about her and the hepatic pump.
I used a surgeon on LI who is affiliated with my oncologists. I still don't understand why my liver surgeon did not put it in last year when I had my resection. I guess he was hoping that things wouldn't come back.
Thanks for the info on the Hepatic pump. I may ask you for more info.0 -
Hello Optimist,
I am relatively new to this board but have found it invaluable. I try to gather info for my brother & my S-I-L who is has Stage IV / w/ liver mets. They also may be switching Dr's & tho they are extremely confident in the surgeon at Sloan, they are not getting the warm fuzzy feeling they got at Jay Monahan/ Columbia/ NY Presb.
Did you have your surgery at Sloan?ANd did you switch oncologists? How was that?
The surgery she faces sounds major & she may be getting the pump. Are you with Dr Kemeny?
Any feedback is appreciated.
Phil has already connected with them & that was really helpful.
Many thanks,
