I am a 2 round cancer survivor - both times same side, stage 1, no nodes (actually 2nd time it sneaked up so fast that it was borderline stage 2, but still no nodes and no evidence of disease after bone scans and CAT scans). Anyway, because of the very promising studies on herceptin, my doctor has talked me into doing a 1 year infusion (every 3 weeks) of herceptin. Anyone else in this boat?

Hi elizagain. I was in a research study 3 years ago, I received herceptin along with taxotare and carboplaten. I was Her2nue positive, no nodes. Studies were so positive that they are now giving herceptine to all her2nue no noedes patients. I am 3 years cancer free. You go for it. Herceptine saved my life. I believe that herceptine will be the miricle drug! Fight with every thing you have!

So did you do OK on herceptin? They are not giving it to me in conjunction with any other chemo. I already had A/C and Taxol and it's been over a year. They are just giving me the herceptin by itself. The only worry I have is the heart problems.

HI - I'm on Herceptin alone. Started last Sept. I'm IIB with no nodes. I don't even know I'm getting it! My dr. does MUGA scan on the heart every three months to check heart functions but so far so good. I don't have a port and the veins on my good hand/arm are starting to get worn out but other than that I am unaware of even getting the meds. Remember that Herceptin is completely different than other chemo. It's more of an antibody than a poison. I agree that it is a wonder drug for those of use who are HER2+. I personally would rather watch for POSSIBLE heart problems and get the meds. I'm also on Arimedex daily for 5 yrs. Read up on it and make your decision based on information you find. Only you can decide what is right for you, but for me there was no question after the new results came in. I did decline to take it in conjunction with other chemos and did this following AC and Taxol. Google Herceptin and you will find lots of sites to read.
