Colon Palooza
Several have recently posted and responded to various messages referring to the upcoming COLON PALOOZA events that are planned for this year.
With that stated, I figured a little clarification was in order...
As you all have learned, we are a closely-knit group of folks with the common thread of some association to colon cancer. Whether it be someone actively getting treatment, someone who is on the "survivor" side of things, or a caregiver to someone diagnosed, we all understand the battle involved here.
Well, in an effort to meet in person, as well as have a great time, a few of us "regulars" (no pun intended) started to plan various field trips where we all meet for a few days. We call these "PALOOZAS."
The term Palooza, according the the Urban Dictionary (who knew there was such a thing?!??!) is:
"an all-out crazy party; partying at one place with a ton of people like there's no tomorrow."
This term fits best with our group since we all learn the importance of "carpe diem!" (seize the day) and taking advantage of each breathing moment. To date, there have been two such parties: the first was in Biloxi in February 2005, and the other was in Las Vegas in Oct. 2005. And here are the details to the two parties planned for 2006:
April 27-30, 2006 (Thursday to Sunday) in Austin, Texas. Kerry from this site (kmorton) resides in Texas and is going to show us around her city. There will be a reception of sorts at the home of her and her gracious husband (even though he's an Astros fan! lol...go White Sox!)on Thursday night, with fun and sightseeing up to Sunday. As far as hotels, some have thrown out the Driskell. However, may be pricey for some (this author included! lol) and may look into the Omni, the Radisson, or a few others located near the ever-popular 6th street.
The second trip this year is planned for October 12-15, 2006 (again, Thursday to Sunday) in the lovely Halifax, Nova Scotia. Yes, that IS Canada! This one is the work of Lisa Rose on this site. There will be visiting Irish Pubs, taking boat trips, and even some gambling in the casinos! (CHA-CHING!!!!) Lisa has reserved a block of rooms at the Delta Hotel (Lisa, please clarify if it's the Delta Barrington or Delta Halifax).
BOTH are GUARANTEED to be a blast. The reason for two trips is so that folks may be able to make at least one. Obviously, we'd like for everyone to make both, but for treatment, financial and employment obligations, this may not be possible. Please do not wait to book these trips until the last minute! Rooms may be taken up fast.
If you browse the gallery section of this site, and put in the word colon for the search, you can view a little story about all that happened on our last trip in Vegas. It was a blast!
So, hope this helped light the fire of those of you teetering on whether or not to head out to the PALOOZAS this year...you'll be glad you came!
Stacy

We have negotiated a very good rate with the Delta Halifax Hotel ( NOT DELTA BARRINGTON) that took sometime as I had to sign a contract with the hotel.
Standard rack rate is $214 and we have negotiated $135.00 Canadian per night approx $116.00 USD.
Harbour room will run you an extra $40.00 Canadian per night approx $33.00 USD. So make the call and guarantee your room under GCOLON ( groupcolon ) that's what were booked under. Even if you upgrade please still book under GCOLON as I am now responsible for this block of rooms. All you have to do is guarantee your room to your credit card no payment necessary at the time of your booking. The hotel has a flexible cancellation policy in case anyone has to cancel for health reasons etc.
See you in Halifax!

Hi Stacy & Everyone
Great Post. . .
OK folks one of the great benefits of being a Semi - Colon is Palooza time. So put the dates on your calender and come meet your CSN family. Andy & I are both looking forward to Austin it's going to be so much fun. We have most of our arrangements made plane tickets & grandparents just waiting for final the hotel information.
Were both looking forward to having the semi-colons come to Canada for Palooza 4. Halifax is a great city and it should be lots of fun. The fall weather should be very pleasant and the changing the leaves is breathtaking.
Have A Woderful Day

I think it's Lisa (ifondots63) who said something about living everyday like your **** is one fire
I think the Paloozas are great, and can't wait to go to one. I don't think I'll make it to the April one as I will be in the middle of my chemo run. I will try to go to the one in Nova Scotia tho!
Have always wanted to see Nova Scotia - that and the fact that I've threatened to move to Canada for years - too dangerous here in the US with people with guns - lol.0
