newly diagnosed HELP

I am 26 years old and have been diagnosed with stage 3c ovarian cancer. i had a hysterectomy done in december and luckily no major organs were affected but it was in both ovaries, uterus, ect. I have had fluid in the lower part of my chest for months, thats how they found this... i am being treated with carbo/taxol 6 rounds but i just wanted to know if anyone else has had this problem and how long does it take to go away????

    Hello Sorella. I was diagnosed with Stage 3c also in June of 2004. I had everything taken out in July of 2004, and began 6 treatments of taxol/carboplatin, finishing up around Nov. 2, 2004. My CA-125 kept creeping up, and in spite of three cat scans showing almost no new tumor, I had to have surgery two weeks ago for (5) hernias in the first surgery area above my waist. They did find small amount of more tumor, so today, I just had my second treatment of Gemzar. So far, I haven't gotten sick from it. Many, many people respond very well to the taxol/carbo therapy and go into complete remission. I'm much older than you, and unfortunately, have had a recurrence. After your six treatments, they will keep track of you with the CA-125 blood test, and probably some cat scans too. But, it really is a protection for you, so that just in case it ever came back, they would know right away. Normal CA-125 ranges from 0-35. After my six taxol/carbo treatments, mine was down to 18 - well within the normal range. I think it was up just over 200 before my surgery two weeks ago. I'm anxious to see what it will be in a couple of weeks. I know you will do very well, and my oncologist tells me that there is lots of new things coming down the pike.     there is a light at the end of this tunnel. you will feel lousy for a while but i assure you that you'll feel better. i went thru the same surgery plus another due to complications. it was not a picnic but here i am doing great.good luck Imoan

    Hi! You are so young to be going through this. My heart goes out to you. Is there a Cancer Hosp. or clinic near you? If so, try to get into a clinical trial. I have been told that it is better for you to be in one. I'm not exactly sure about the reason but if you're in one, you will have more Drs looking out for you. It's suppose to improve your changes but that can be debatable after reading a lot of the messages. Best of luck and my prayers are with you. Paula57
