ostomy bag

My dad has colorectal cancer and had to have a permanent colostomy bag put on. This happened about 4 years ago. He wants to be doing things outside, but any sort of work he does, the bag comes loose. He can't keep it stuck to his skin. Any solutions? He's tried a lot of things and is getting very agitated by it always coming off.

    I know there are belts that he could use. It wraps around your waist and it keeps the bag from coming loose. I used it when I first got my colostomy bag.

    Is there any way he can see a stoma nurse (specialist)? They are full of useful tips. I used to be an active participant in the United Ostomy Association website. The website fell apart/moved but you should be able to track it down. Also full of useful information. Also Shaz's website (I don't have the contact details to hand - perhaps someone else does). I have a permanent colostomy. I hope your Dad is able to find a good solution, because this shouldn't be interfering with his activities. Another idea is calling the stoma pouch manufacturers. The major ones usually have a toll free number, and someone who can give advice. Best of luck.

    I second what Tara said. He should be seeing a stoma nurse. His doc should be able to reccomend one. I also have a colostomy and it doesn't interfere at all. Let us know what happens

    My husband has had a iliostomy since oct. and it has taken lots of experimenting on his part. It can be very frustrating at times, especially when you are used to being active. He does have a stoma nurse, however it took him doing much research online to finally find one that would work for him. Get your dad to check out the actual manufactur website. He can order them directly or get the nurse to order them. We use hollister website. Good luck

    there are a lot of different types of appliances
    and all companies will sen d samples on request,but Cymed is the best water proof, sticks like mad, and won't come off - he can swim, sweat,soak, and it won't come off. cymed@cymed-ostomy.com

    I have an ileostomy due to rectal cancer and these dicussion groups have really helped me. If do a search on "leaks" on these boards, you will find lots of information.
