Uterine cancer, hsyterectomy and now abnormal Pap

Hi All,
I am new to this site and am trying to find someone in the same circustances or guide me to some place for more info. I was diagnosed with uterine cancer last year and had a TAH (total abdominal hysterectomy), went in for my 2nd 4 month Pap (I am 8 months post surgery) and it come back as abnormal with low grade cells. I am scheduled for a coloscopy on Jan 30. Any one that could point me in the right direction as to where I can find more info on this I would appreciate it.

    Hi- I am newly diagnosed with uterine cancer (endometrial), and have just signed in to this site. I would be interested in learning more about your treatment and how you are doing. To answer your question, there is a site (www.medlineplus.org) that has lots of information, including some about this procedure. Though I am wondering if you meant to say colposcopy. I had this procedure myself. I think it is used to see what is going on, and to sample some cells/tissue. You can read about it on medlineplus. As I recall, it was not painful. Good luck and best wishes for the outcome.

    Yes you are correct I meant colposcopy. I need a spell check. :) I just had the hyster TAH BSO cancer was 1A therefore no chemo or radiation. With the initial diagnosis I was fine knowing that with surgery it would all be gone, but now needless to say I am to say the least quite nervous. I think I have read everything I can find on the procedure but the majority of the info out there seems to be in regards to cervical cancer and not recurrant uterine. I am also looking for questions from anyone that may have went through this experience. At this point I know I need to be asking questions at my apt next week but not sure where to start.

    I thought my gyn was kidding when she asked if I wanted to do a pap smear after having TAH/oopherectomy, but I guess there's good reason for it. Please come back to the board and let us know how this comes out-I had to convince my friend (who was diagnosed with ovarian cancer) to talk to the doctor about it, too (we have the same gyn). You might try looking on the American Cancer Society's main page for questions to ask - if you do a "search" from the upper right hand corner for colposcopy, you'll get a variety of articles to read, and there are suggested questions available from a bar on the right hand side of the page. I wish I'd spent more time on the site before I had surgery after I was diagnosed with uterine cancer, but I make use of it now. Good luck!

    I have had several colposcopys. They dont hurt a little uncomfortable, Personally the worst part for me was the vinegar solution they spray inside you it helps shows the bad cells. I have had to had biopyses also during the procedure a little pinching but not the worst thing you have been through worse. my gyno told me take what you take for cramps about an hour before you go in. That was before I had a total hysterectomy. i had endometrial cancer stage 2 getting ready for radition and scared as hell.. Tasha

    My sister has been diagnosed with endometrial carcinosarcoma. she is having a hysterectomy on Friday. We don't know what stage yet but her doc thinks it is pretty early. We are so worried, but one step at a time. can you tell me how you felt after the hysterectomy?

    Deb, I'm in the same boat! I went for my routine 6 mo. check up..I was dx. 3 yrs. ago with endo adenocarcinoma stage1a, grade 1. Yes..we got lucky! Then, wham...they called to say I needed to go in for a colposcopy. I asked every kind of question you can imagine. They had tested me for HPV and I did test positive for the high risk strains. The colposcopy showed nothing. When the spray the solution in there it will light up the areas of concentrated abnormal cells. If that happens, they can biopsy those lesions..(small pinch). Most often, they will have you come on a frequent regular schedule to keep an eye on things. This is not a reoccurance of the uterine cancer but it's the cervical HPV related potential. I will go again next week. I have to say, I was more mad and upset about this whole thing than I ever remember being the previous round. This seems to be chronic. Some women can fight the virus off..it can lay dorment for years and years. I was surprised to find out that I even had HPV but the doctor said that since my pap came back as ASCUS they automatically test. I'm mad. But, what can you do? I will just go and keep a close eye on everything. Good luck and keep me posted!

    hello sister of jane, I have had this surgery done 3 months ago and it was fustrating for me because i don't have any children like any other surgery it hurst like hell and lots of discomfort but the best thing is they took care of it, but before the surgery she needs to know what stage she is in now before surgery so the dr. needs to give her this info
