Hi Everyone,
I am a newbie to this site. I was diagnosed the day before my birthday 12/19/05. I went in for a colonoscopy because of pain and diarhea. I thought I had ulcerated colitus or diverticulitus. They found a mass in my colon and couldn't finish the colonoscopy. They operated on my birthday. I now tell a funny story that when they took me down to OR, one of the dr.s saw it was my birthday. Everyone promptly told me happy birthday and of course I started to cry! What a birthday present?? I think it is kind of funny now but of course was not then. The Dr. took 11 nodes and only one was positive for cancer. I have scheduled an appointment with an oncologist for February so still waiting for what stage I am in. I have been reading everyone's posts about nutrition and was wondering where everyone buys their stuff. I have been looking for 3 things that everyone seems to say helps: Noni Juice, Mangosteen Juice, and Immune FX. I have been looking on the web but some of these seem very expensive. Does anyone think that someone should only try one at a time? I have 4 kids and want to be around to see my grandkids kids. I am only 42 so that means I plan to be around for a long time! I have read about staying off sugar also and nobody says this is only "processed" sugar. I am diabetic so some of the diets I have read might not be good for me to try. Working on loosing weight (have never stopped really) so hopefully can get off the diabetic meds. Help! I think I going into information overload.

Hi Lisa,
Welcome to the Semi-Colons!
You are definitely in the info-overload stage if you are researching your options. I am just so surprised that they have not told you your stage yet. I was told directly after my surgery.
I was Stage 3 lymph pos zero mets. I had 2 out of 19 lymphs positive but nothing had spread to any organs. Thank God.
My oncologist suggested "adjuvant" chemo to "clean up" any renegade cancer cells.
I declined and instead pursued Eastern Medicine and dietary healing. I have now been cancer free for over 4 years having never done any chemo. YIPPEE!!
I bought many many many supplements and herbs....some from my Naturopathic Doctor, some from my Traditional Chinese Medicine, and some just from my whole foods coop.
I did not take any Noni Juice or Mangosteen or Immune FX. I did take Essiac Tea as part of my protocol. I have heard very good things about Mangosteen--the others I don't know about to recommend.
I will tell you that if you add supplements to your protocol be prepared to spend alot. But when it's your life it is worth it. Because you are diabetic I would HIGHLY recommend you seek the counsel of a Naturopathic Doctor. They tend to be more nutritionally focused than allopathic doctors and can help you wade through all the supplement issues.
A fabulous book for is: Beating Cancer With Nutrition by PAtrick Quillin.
It is a Bible of supplements for healing cancer and augmenting chemo if you decide to go that route.
I have 5 kids and my youngest was 20 months old at the time of my dx. I was 39. So I hear ya on wanting to be there for them.
Anyway, I hope this helps.

Hi Lisa F:
Hey we could be sisters. I am 39, was dignosed on 12/26, a week after you, stage II, no met. Had surgery on 12/27 and now recovering nicely, and researching the heck out of what I should eat.
I am very cautious with my sugar intake by habit, so I have been careful not to over do it on any juice. My family in China (a bunch of scientists and cancer survivors) suggested a pretty different set of supplements:
1. Brocolli sprouts - strong immuno support, cancer fighting properties and no sugar. I buy sees from http://www.sproutpeople.com very inexpensively.
2. Ganoderma/Cordeceps/Maitake - mushroom extracts, again, strong immuno support, cancer fighting properties and no sugar. You can read about these on the Sloan-Kettering web site http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/11571.cfm?RecordID=421&tab=HC. I got my stash from China and from my local Whole Foods, about $150/month.
3. Beet root juice - I am anemic so I need iron - very little sugar. This I get from whole foods, about $40/mo.
I'll keep you posted on my findings.
Cheers,

I am a stage 3/4 cancer survivor and new to this website. One supplement I take is IP-6 with isotol. Supports a healthy immune system. Not too expensive and have heard good things I am interested in learning more about the sugar connection. Have never heard any thing about that.0
