My husband 45 years old and healthy until 1 1/2 months ago recently diagnosed with stage 1V gastric adenomcarcinoma with peritoneal carcinomatosis. He had surgery for for suspected ulcer disease 4 weeks ago and was diagnosed at that time. Are there any miracle stories out there for someone in his situation? It is our understanding that the peritoneal carcinomatosis makes it a very difficult situation. We were hopeful for a clinical trial but it does not show up on CT scan so it is not "measureable". We have 3 kids and are anxious for any information about chemo etc. that may be helpful. Thanks.

HI- I too was diagnosed with adenomcarinoma and had half my stomach removed 7 weeks ago. I,m do to start chemo later this week, and will also have radiation. I was referrred to Dana Farber Cancer Insitute (Brigham and Womens Hospital in Boston) for my surgery, but my chemo and radiation will be given locally because the treatment will be the same as what they have at Dana Farber. I'm also new to this and don't know very much either. Have you had a second opinion ?

My husband too has the same cancer. He completed his first round of chemo and starts his second tomorrow. He is eating better than before they found the cancer, so I am hopeful. How is your husband doing these days, he is ahead of my husband and I would love to know how he is doing.

I was diagnosed last Feb, operated on in Mar. Removed 2/3 of my stomach, and 19 lymph nodes, of which 2 were cancerous. I am a 56 year old female. I have undergone 1 round of chemo and radiation. I wound up in the hospital 2 days after becoming dehydrated.. So drink lots!!!
After my radiation treaments, I was very sick also. They found the radiation was a bit too strong for me as it inflamed my intestinal wall, and whats left of my stomach. I have had a break from treatments to heal, but have to start again on Monday. I am scared, it will get me sick again, but they say there is a 40% chance of reacurrance with out the treatments. So... I will give it another try. They are going to readjust the dosages. So I am hopeful.

My husband is 40 and was diagnosed 5/18/06 with gastric cancer. All the scans and scopes showed it to be minimal. However, on 6/8 when they opened him up to do his partial gastrectomy, there was seeding on his liver (not in his liver) which had caused the part of the liver that naturally lays on the stomach, to attach itself to the stomach. So, they inserted the feeding tube and closed him back up. They also found seeding in the peritoneal lining of his abdomen. He has a tumor in his esophogeal junction, as well as the cancer in the top of his stomach. He just completed 23 radiation treatments for the tumor, which appears to have shrunk, and just completed round 3 of very aggressive chemo, platinol, taxotere, and 5-FU - the 5-FU is administered through a bottle over 4 days. The end of September after his 4th treatment, his oncologist is going to run some tests to see how he is responding. What do you think? Docs won't give us a prognosis. The goal is to get the chemo to shrink/kill the cancer, so they can go back in and remove the tumor and his stomach. I am so scared and don't know what to do. My husband had been seeing a GI specialist since 9/05 and was misdiagnosed which enreages me also. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I read your e-mail. I think we are all looking for info and answers - we are learning we can only handle this one day at a time now. My Husband is 50 and has adenocarcinoma - linitus Plastica type, stomach; He was originally diagnosed in April 2005 - went to do surgery, but closed back up as inoperable. he was told 2 to 9 months. We keep being told "palliative care" only. He went through 1st round of chemo and by Nov of 2005 CT showed clear - was able to eat better and removed feeding tube. Gained weight 218 lbs (no hair loss) Last May started having eating problems again - progressed very rapidly and went to hospital. Tumor growth outlet obstruction; malnourshed and dehydrated - put the feeding tube back in. they say his entire stomach is invaded through the linings. Started 2nd round of Chemo in Aug. doing much better now up to 158lbs - Oxiplatin is reducing tumor size, he is able to eat again - but lots of nausea. Kytrel helps that. Yesterday we had 2nd feeding tube pulled(he was getting constant severe pain from the tube (perhaps hitting a nerve) 35ccs hydrocodiene every 2 hours - that was just too much. We opted to pull that since he is able to eat. Right now on 2nd round - 5th dose of chemo (bi-weekly 5fu and Oxiplatin 4 days straight). He is scheduled for CT on 10-16 to see how things are going. I hope you had good news with your september test results.

    Hi
My name is Pam and they found my stomach cancer Dec 2006 at age 43. It was stage 3. I had surgery Jan 16 and they removed 3/4 of my stomach and my gallblader. I had my surgery at IUPU by a very good Gastric Surgen (Dr. Dennis Blom) The first thing I remember him saying after surgery is consider yourself cancer free. He removed 20 lymphnode and out of the 20 two were positve. I was home about 48 hours and developed a fever and was rushed to my local emergency room in Ohio. I under went emergency surgery and there was too much infection to locate the cause, so they inserted a G tube (drainage) and sewed me back up. I then developed ARDS and was put into a drug induced coma for about a month. after the infection was under control I was sent home with a G tube and a J tube. After about a month they decided to start trying to remove the G tube. When it was removed I made it about three days and spiked a fever again and rushed to the hospital where I under went surgery again. This time they found a tear near my original surgery it was repaired. 4 weeks later I started chemo and radiation. I just finished 5 rounds of chemo and 27 radiation treatments. Treatment (5-FU and radiation) was hard for me as it was more toxic for me than most people. Something to do with the enzymes in my blood. I was back in the hospital after my second to last teatment due to low white and red counts and dehydraytion. I was there this time for about 10 days. There isn't anyonee in my area that has this cancer and I have not found anyone in my age group that has it at all, so I have felt somewhat alone in this journey. Glad to talk with someone who understands.

My best friend was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer and a tumor in his hip in March and started chemo in April/May.

Well Im trying to as optimistic as possible but Just 1.5 weeks ago he was taken off of his chemo because the doctor didn't think it was working very well and said he only has about 2 months to live. They started radiation two days ago and now I just found out this morning that the Doctors don't think he'll make it more than a week, but when I saw him on wednesday he had seemed to be getting better...

Does anyone know of anything at all for a last ditch effort emmediately??? Because there could be nothing worse than just waiting out the next week or so waiting for his demise...

Please, any hope or even a story of someone else would be greatly appreciated

    Hi, Dina

    Hi, Dina,

Sorry to hear about her's mom's news! It must be a big shock. Please do not give up. I have seen many woman survived stomach cancer for more than 5 years and even become cancer free.

I was wondering whether you would get a reply from the others posted in the thread. My husband had this type of cancer. It's very aggressive and the CT scan normally doesn't pick it up. He battled it for almost a year but passed away 2 months ago. He was healthy and fit until the diagnosis. My husband was a great guy and a very strong fighter in the cancer journey. I miss him daily...

Praying for you and your mom!
