Thanks for all your responses! I will ask the doc about calcium/magnesium infusions. I'm not looking forward to resuming chemo, but I sure do want to knock these cancer cells out of my lungs (everything else was clear on cat scan, whew!) and the camptosar was just keeping them in check. Hopefully the oxaliplatin will knock them out! I'm mostly concerned (at this point) with GI symptoms. This 3 month break has finally allowed me to get my new rectum working half way normal and I think (please, please, oh please!) that my anal fissure has finally healed!
Thanks again!
Mary

    Mary,

I wish you all the best as you begin chemo again. I pray that those cancer cells are stopped in their tracks. Good luck and keep us posted as to how you are doing.

And thank you for your thank you note. We are all here to help and advise one another, which is why this is such a beautiful internet site. I love this forum. I can ask questions that even my health care providers don't understand because they don't actually have cancer. Don't get me wrong, I treasure my doctors and nurses, but they lack the first hand experiece of being diagnosed and dealing with treatment. Here, I can find people who have experiences all the side effects that I have suffered, and I can offer advice to other people. I love that!

    Hi Mary,

I'm hoping that oxaliplatin will be your answer to complete healing. It has worked for me so far. I did want to mention that I developed toxic hepatitis from the oxaliplatin. I had to stop treatment to allow my liver functions to return to normal. They quickly did and my oncologist then extended the time it was administered rather than lowering the dosage.

Keep us posted on your progress.

    Hugs,

    Kay

Um, yea. Kay (Kanort)'s message reminded me that my dosage had to be lowered -- in my case due to low white blood cell count. I'm on meds now for that. Funny what the brain blocks out when asked about side effects....

Gosh, I agree about selective memory. Oxy did a number on my liver, but I forgot to mention it in the other posting. Kay jogged my memory as well.
