Hi~ I've just recently been diagnosed with Basal Cell in the nasal crease. I'm consulting this week with a Plastic Surgeon. Seven years ago I had the spot on my nose checked and was told it was a scar and there was nothing to do about it. Now it turns out to be Basal Cell!!
I've been upset (obviously) and doing lots of research. My husband says I'm exaggerating and I don't think he has a real grasp on what is to come.
I'm feeling very frustrated with him and a bit overwhelmed trying to figure out the best course of action. It was presented to me that I could EITHER have the Mohs surgery by a dermatologist OR have a plastic surgeon remove and reconstruct. Wouldn't the best action be to have the Moh's by a dermatologist, leave the wound open and have a plastic surgeon close it??
I have a crappy HMO, and will have to fight it out with them.
How exactly does the Moh's surgery happen? How long do you wait between incisions? It was presented to me that between incisions you wait in the waiting room!!??!!
As much as I don't want to really know what will happen, I feel as if I should prepare myself for worst case scenario.
Thanks!

I am a survivor of basal cell and have encountered the same 'your not really a cancer survivor crap' - also from my spouse - TELL HIM/THEM THAT WHEN YOU GO THROUGH WHAT I HAVE GONE THROUGH YOU CAN THEN SAY YOU DON'T REALLY HAVE CANCER, - they can't do that, only those who have been through this can say that - no matter what kind of cancer it is.
hang in there0
