Hello all..
I never though that I will face this...My Dad a vegetarian,non-smoker,no-alcohol,highly religious person is diagnosed with stomach cancer..
It was detected when he was in for ulcer treatment in july.He was doing very good until the previous day..The ulcer specialist refered to Oncologist. My dad recovered from ulcer surgery in 15 days and was doing very well again..After the scan the Oncologist said the scan doesn't look too bad and they may take out only a part of the stomach and promised atleast 5 more years.
Well my dad has undergone the surgery 15 days back and doctor said they couldn't do anything in Surgery and said they are going to put him through Chemo and promised atleast 2 more years..Last week when it was time for Chemo he said my dad is not physically strong enough to take chemo and now they have no option..
I am just going crazy that in just 1 1/2 months the doctors went down from 5 years more life time to weeks..??
My dad was doing just great even after the ulcer surgery about 1 1/2 months back now the doctors have no option including Chemo??
Can anybody confirm that a person needs to be physically very strong to undergo Chemo??
By the way I live in Dallas and my dad in India(Hyd),his treatment was at IndoAmerican Cancer center in Hyd.

I am very sorry to hear about your father...I also had an ulcer and was diagnosed with stage 3 stomach cancer....most of my stomach was removed and thus far my cat scans have been clean..my operation was 2 years ago....The only advice I can give you is try to get him into MD Anderson in Houston....The best places to go for any type of cancer is there or Sloan-Kettering in New York....This is all they do is work with people with cancers.....try to get him to Anderson if aat all possible....I too are a vegetarian,non-smoker,eat organic food etc.....I wish I could be more help....If you need someone to talk to you can email me at ccassar@parkell.com or call at 516-449-3566....I will put him in my prayers...

MY HEART ACHES FOR YOU. WHEN I READ YOUR POST IT ABSOLUTELY MIRRORED MINE AND MY THOUGHTS WHEN THIS HAPPENED TO MY FATHER. 57 YEARS OLD, NON SMOKER, NON DRINKER, FIT, AND DEEPLY RELIGOUS LOVING THE LORD. I WAS SO ANGRY AND FELT SOOO PANICKY LIKE I JUST HAD TO FIND SOMETHING ON THE INTERNET TO HELP HIM. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT MY DAD JUST KEPT TRUSTING THE LORD EVEN WHEN NOTHING WAS GOING WELL FOR HIM. I WAS SOOO ANGRY AND CONSTANTLY CRYING. I CAN ASSURE YOU, YOU AREN'T ALONE AND I WITNESSED AMAZING THINGS COME OUT OF MY DAD'S DISEASE THAT I WOULD HAVE NEVER DREAMED. I AM JUST GIVING YOU THIS PERSONAL ADVICE FROM MY EXPERIENCE. ONE DAY DRIVING IN THE CAR SOMETHING HAPPENED AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I FELT THIS DEEP SENSE OF LOVE FOR GOD. I KNEW THAT NO MATTER WHAT HE LOVED US AND THAT EVERYTHING WOULD BE OK--JUST SURRENDER IT ALL TO HIM. MY DADS FAITH NEVER WAVERED AND HIS LAST WORDS WERE GOD'S WILL BE DONE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN A CHRISTIAN BUT DESPITE WHAT MY EYES COULD SEE I TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL OF MY HEART AND HE DRAWS US NEAR IN TIMES OF TROUBLE--EVERYTHING ELSE IS A DEAD END BUT NOT WITH HIM. I KNOW THAT BECAUSE OF MY DAD'S FAITH AND HOW HE GREW CLOSER TO CHRIST THROUGH SUFFERINGS--WE WILL BE TOGETHER SOON ETERNALLY. A VERY HELPFUL PASSAGE IN THE BIBLE IS SO DEAR TO MY HEART----11 TIMOTHY:4 PLEASE GET IN TOUCH WITH ME IF I CAN HELP YOU IN ANY WAY. I KNOW THAT THERE WERE JUST SO MANY SCARY QUESTIONS THAT I DIDN'T KNOW AND ESPECIALLY WANTED TO TALK TO THOSE WHO WERE FAMILAR AS EXPERIENCING THIS THEMSELVES OR GOING THROUGH IT WITH ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER. THERE IS A ALSO A BOOK THAT A FRIEND GAVE ME AND I THANK GOD FOR IT BECAUSE IT IS A TREASURE! SO MANY TIMES IT BREAKS MY HEART TO THINK ABOUT FAMILIES WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS AND DISMISSED THINGS SAID BY THE PATIENT AS "TALKING OUT OF THEIR HEAD BECAUSE OF MEDICATIONS". THIS BOOKS IS WRITTEN BY 2 HOSPICE NURSES WHO SHARE MANY OF THEIR SEVERAL EXPERIENCES WITH PARENTS NEARING DEATH AND THE SIMILARITIES BETWEEN THEM. I WOULD SIT AND LISTEN TO MY DAD WHILE HE WAS SLEEPING AND LISTEN FOR HIM TO SAY ANYTHING--AFTER READING THIS BOOK I KNEW IT WAS A GIFT FROM GOD BECAUSE I COULD TELL MY DAD WAS MAKING THE TRANSFORMATION WEEKS BEFORE HE DIED. I KNOW TRUST ME THAT THIS SOUNDS EASIER SAID THAN DONE, BUT BE STRONG FOR YOUR DAD. IT IS NORMAL THAT WE WANT TO JUST SCREAM AND HOLD ONTO THEM SCREAMING DADDY NO!!!! WE HAVE TO BE STRONG AND KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT THEIR CHOICE AND THAT THEY HAVE TO KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE OK. MY DAD AND I WOULD PRAY AND WE WOULD ALSO PRAY NOT ONLY FOR HIS HEALING BUT FOR THE HEALING OF OUR HEARTS ALSO.KNOW THAT I AM HERE IF YOU NEED ME AND YOU AND YOUR FAMILY ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. BETSY0

Hello. I just wanted to write and say that I understand the disbelief that you are feeling. My mother, also a non-smoker, religious person was diagnosed with stomache cancer this past October. She had her entire stomach removed three weeks ago, and is home recovering. She will begin her chemo and radiation therapy after the holidays. They did not find any cancer in other organs, but it is probable that it is through her body SOMEWHERE microscopically. We are just terrifed and in disbelief, so I know how you feel.
I do know that you have to be free of infection before undergoing chemo...and they will do blood work before the treatments to check the blood counts and so on. Have you made any further progress with your father? I am shocked that the doctors would give you such concrete prognosis. Has he begun treatments yet? Do you know is there were any lymph nodes that may have become invovled?
Please know that I am thinking of you....0
