Lost My Husband to Kidney Cancer

Four weeks ago today, my husband died from metastatic renal cell carcinoma, after being diagnosed 17 months ago. It was a long journey, but he never lost his strong determination and will to survive, until the very end. I feel extremely grateful I was able to keep him at home and keep his journey as normal and natural as possible. In his final days, our house was filled with love and support from family and friends. When he died, it was truly a big relief that finally, for him, it was over. Amazing things happened in my husband's final days which absolutely strengthens my conviction that he is now in a better place and at peace.

God Bless you and your family. I hope that you will find peace in God and hold on to knowing that your husband IS in a wonderful place with no pain and suffering.
I hope that you will find peace and the strength to carry on and to strive to meet him someday in that same wonderful place.
The memories that you have will keep your husband alive and with you forever. Remember him but don't forget YOU. You are obviously a strong and compassionate person with lots of love and family and friends. You will be fine and I pray that you will keep going. Thank you for sharing with us your strength.
God Bless you.

FIRST LET ME SAY I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS.MY FATHER DIED IN APRIL AFTER A VERY LONG HARD FIGHT WITH STOMACH CANCER. HIS FAITH NEVER WAVERED. AFTER EACH TEST WOULD COME BACK WITH BAD NEWS ETC. HE NEVER STOPPED TRUSTING IN THE LORD. AMAZING THINGS HAPPENED IN MY PARENTS HOME TOO! MY DAD'S LAST WORDS WERE "GOD'S WILL BE DONE." MY TWO BROTHERS AND MY MOM WERE ALL THERE AND WE NEVER THOUGHT WE WOULD UTTER THESE WORDS BUT IT WAS BEAUTIFUL. WE TOLD HIM WE WERE FINE AND THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE OK. WE SAID THAT WE WERE SO PROUD OF HIM AND THAT HE HAD FOUGHT LONG ENOUGH. WE TOLD HIM THAT JESUS WAS IN THE ROOM AND WAS THERE TO TAKE HIS HAND--WITH THAT HE TOOK A BREATH AND DIED. I THEN WHISPERED IN HIS EAR "DADDY YOU WON." I KNOW IT IS MEANT WITH THE BEST INTENTIONS BUT I DID NOT WANT ANYONE TO TELL ME THAT HE LOST HIS BATTLE BECAUSE NOTHING COULD BE FURTHER FROM THE TRUTH. THE WAY HE KEPT THE FAITH HAS GIVEN MY FAMILY A PEACE AND COMFORT THAT WE WILL SEE HIM AGAIN SOON!! HIS LAST TIME IN THE HOSPITAL ABOUT 6 WEEKS BEFORE HE DIED, I WAS HAVING A HARD TIME AND I OPENED THE BIBLE LIKE I OFTEN DO TO A RANDOM PAGE AND SEE WHAT SPEAKS TO ME ON EITHER OF THOSE TWO PAGES--I OPENED RIGHT TO 2 TIMOTHY 4:6 VERSES 6-7 ARE ETCHED ON MY DAD'S GRAVESTONE. THOSE WORDS WERE GIVEN TO ME THAT DAY AND NONE COULD HAVE BEEN MORE APPROPRIATE. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR YOU BECAUSE OUR GRIEF IS VERY MUCH PRESENT. BETSY0

I am so sorry for your loss. I was caregiver to my oldest brother as he died from liver cancer and just 10 months before that, the youngest of my brothers died following a failed BMT. It's been two years but I can still cry so easily even though I know that they are cradled in our Lord's hands. Know that crying and mourning is so necessary and normal - funny thing though, we are really crying for ourselves because we miss them so much.0
