Tumor around bile duct in pancreas

Hello to everyone out there.

My future Mother-In-Law was told she has a tumor in her pancreas, wrapped around her bile duct.

Within three weeks she has had a series of test including an ERCP and most recently an ECU. The only reason she went to the doctor was she had jaundice.

I don't understand why she DOESN'T have an oncologist and an gastrointerologist (sp?) is performing all these tests!?!

The placed a stent in her at the blockage, but she still isn't getting proper nutrition because she's not eating well or as much as she should be.

Has anyone gone through this?

My Grandmother just passed away recently with the same cancer. She was evaluated much differently and started chemo within a week. She also had the Whipple surgery. She lived with cancer for almost 4 years.

    Sorry to hear about your future mother in law.
    There is information on the Johns Hopkins site. They have done alot of research about this cancer. Also I use Vertasmedical for more information on subject of certain cancers. Can also receive free newsletters about particular cancers mostly from the experts dealing with the cancers.
    Hope this is helpful to you.
    I am not sure why she would not have an oncologist and other specialists. Even though my dad had stage4 PC, he had an oncologist following him. He could not tolerate the chemo drugs.
    HIs was near the bile duct. Is she a candidate for the whipple procedure?? Can they operate at all?
    A friend of mine's mother in law, was on trial chemo drugs. Ask about the clinical trials she could get in on??

    I miss a great deal and everyday.

    Thanks for the website. I guess we find out today that it is DEFINATLEY cancer. I dont know why it wouldn't be, i mean, seriously, how many benign tumors are on your pancreas.

    It just upsets me cause Grandma just went through all this and now its happening again. I hope she can get the surgery, it really helps.

    I'd love for her to try anything, but it all depends on how she feels about it. I think she would be willing.

    I hope it is not cancer.And all is well for you all. It is hard thing to deal with waiting no matter what goes on.

    The website is VeritasMedicine not medical. They changed it some.

    Also, there is a PANCAN.org. that is for just pancreatic cancer persons and caregivers. YOu may want to check out their website. They have alot of information there,too.

    HOpe all goes well and you do not need this information.

    Hi I had the Whipple 3 weeks ago and was told I had a remarkable recovery, HOWEVER they say 1 of 17 lymph Nodes has been impacted and I need Chemo. Is this a really negative development.

    Hi: Sorry to hear about her. They told us bile duct was mostly men's disease. Anyway, my husband has bile duct, pancreas and liver cancer. He is on Gemzar and Tarceva. the tumor markers have been going down. He is sick a lot of the time, but we are hopeful. Whipple was not an option, but he did have surgery to bypass the bile duct and remove the gallbladder. He had 5 stints put in at different times, and it was only last a few days to a week, before he needed a new one. He just had the last one removed, and hopefully he will stop getting as sick. They said the stint was full of material. (I think they mean ****).
