Hi guys its me again. I was just wondering if there was anyone here that had a rectal mass and did NOT require surgery like myself? Even though I have had clean scans and blood tests I am so worried about them not doing surgery on my rectum. I go Friday to see my colo/rectal surgeon and he will check me out its been since March that I have been there and I'm going to mention my concerns. This morning I am even more concerned because I had a normal bowel movement then awhile later I had gas and it was a little mucousy with a tinge of blood I mean as big as specks of pepper. I constantly look closely at my toilet paper. How concerned do you think I should be about that? Please let me know what you think.... I'm worried sick... thanks Doreen ~

    Hi again Doreen,

I have to respond to you since I have never had any cancer surgeries. Yes I have a "tempy" colostomy bag from a nasty bout of acute perontinitis. My onc thought my cancer was "too extensive" to do any surgeries last March. Yes, I admit, I am not an "official semi colon" since I have never had anything cut out from my cancer (stage IV with mets to liver and my left lung).

My original rectal mass was not near the concern that the liver mets were, so my onc and I put it on the back burner. I did chemo for 8 months and just couldn't do it anymore and it wasn't really working anymore, so I researched and changed my diet (lifestyle) last Nov. Just a few weeks ago, I heard the words NED for the very first time and was so stunned. I asked about my primary rectal tumor and my onc then got just as curious as I was. WHAT happened to that bad boy???????

We did a flex sig. and they took a dozen biopsis where they thought the tumor had been. All came out clean as a whistle. The GI doc doing the flex sig kept saying while she was looking at the before and after shots was WOW!!!!!! It was a wonderful day.

That all being said, I know that I will have the talk with my onc about "cutting" out the area that was originally cancerous. I don't know what I will do yet since we have not talked about it. The more I read, the more I learn that cutting it all out is not always the answer. God made us all and if we listen to his teachings about diet and other things, surgery is not needed. Our bodies can respond if we help them to.

Talk to your onc. about your bleeding now!!!!!! Don't wait until Friday. I have had some minor bleeding once like you describe, but it is all about my hemmoriods. Get a flex sig if you really want to know what is going on. The mucous is normal, that is what the colon does.....excrete stuff to help the poop flow. It's like a lubricant. I have a colostomy bag and pass stuff out of my booty frequently now, that is just normal.

Try to not get caught up in the "cut in out" syndrome. Talk to your doctor about it and keep us posted honey.

    Hello,

If I were you, I would get a second opinion at a major cancer center. If they agree, it would put your mind at ease.

    Hey Doreen,
I suggest a second opinion. It can't hurt and you NEED to feel confident in your treatment.
Good Luck and try not to worry too much.
    Hugs,
