just post chemo and radiation

I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in 4-05. I have been through 5 weeks of chemo and 35 external radiation doses and 5 internal radiation doses. Im getting better every day,I have this debilitating soreness from my hips to my knees. My shoulders even ache so bad i cant sleep. I have a follow up with the gyn/onc in a couple of weeks. Is this normal? When does it go away? I had to return to work, but i feel so stupid wobbling around with a smile. Has anyone else experienced this type of soreness?

    Hi,

    I finished 28 external radiation treatments and 5 chemo treatments on 11/30/04. My hips/upper thighs ache and remain weak. I have fibromyalgia and the treatments were delivered right in the area of my "sore spots" on the outer thighs. So, treatment combined with fibro has made it pretty painful at times. I'm sure adding the 5 internal treatments would add to healing time. What type of cancer did you have? Stage? I had clear cell adenocarcinoma of the endocervix. Was not diagnosed until post simple hysterectomy. The ECC, endometrial biopsy, and colposcopy did not diagnose the cancer. Did show abnormalities which now I realize should have probably prompted the ob/gyn to do a D&C before hysterectomy. I was in on Thursday for a check for some bothersome vulvar itching and had to have a biopsy for a small growth that was bleeding on the vaginal wall. So, now I'm holding my breath and praying a lot for positive results. I hope you're improving!! Cami

    My cancer was diagnosed after a hysterectomy so I needed radiation immediately after surgery. Radiation greatly distressed my small intestine, rectum, etc., slowed down the surgical healing and I feel tired like a truck ran over me, which, I'm told is "normal" under the circumstances. And I'm a school teacher trying to start out the year. I have soreness in my muscles like I have the flu, but the scariest thing is the total lack of energy. You sound like you have some energy? I'm sorry you're sore, but would sure like to know how going back to work sounds so doable... I teach and come home to bed. I'm "allowed" to start exercising, walking, etc. in one more month. Maybe strength will pick up then? Our treatments were different, and I'm sore, but I'm told the soreness, in my case, is exhaustion... Please let us know how you do - I'm envious that you are getting better daily. I struggle to see a weekly improvement.
