Juicing and the Sugar Question

Hi all you awesome semi-colons juicing or otherwise:

I personally never drink the juice without adding protein powder and having fiber (ground flax seeds) not to mention the green powders full of wheat grass etc.

The protein and fiber will help to counteract the glycemic infusion....and the fiber is of utmost importance. It all works to your benefit.

What is important is making sure the insulin doesn't rise....therefore the protein and fiber added is imperative.

I guess when I have spoken of juicing I have not always clarified what all I put in it---with many of you, yes because we have had "private" conversations on the How To.

So I am adding my .02 to the juicing discussion that when I talk juicing I mean the whole package......protein powder ( I am currently using a fermented soy), fiber (ground flax seed) and green powder (I am currently using Barlean's Greens).

I just received an email from a friend tonight with news that a woman given the "months to live" sentence is now CANCER FREE. she juices 2 quarts of greens daily.

I hope this helps.

peace, emily who is busy with houseguests so will not be too available at the moment.

Thanks Em - I am glad that you explained what you use as a combo; it really helps the straight carrot sugar-high. I had carrot-orange-and soy protein recently...sort of like a creamsicle taste!! Cheers - Maura

I am just looking to start juicing from scratch as I have last week discovered my colon C has now spread to both lungs, and the prognosis is not good, I also am due to start chemo in 2 weeks, can you possibly give me some advise on what to use for the juice, (I live in the UK, so may not have the same brand names over here). many thanks.

    Emily,

I use a fiber supplement daily, not for juicing but just for better digestion. With a total colectomy, fiber actually helps so slow the passage of food and generally enhances the digestive process. I use Metamucil daily, but you have made me curious if ground flax seeds might be a better choice. Do you know anything about how they might compare as general fiber supplements. Maybe I should use both. I do have flax oil supplements at home, but that's not fiber of course.

    Thanks,
    Rodney

    hi cheil,

In my research I chose veggies specifically for their digestive properties...except for the carrots--that just seems to be the cancer curing foundational veggie.

    Carrots
    Apple
    spinach
    kale
    celery
    parsley
    ginger (small chunk)

For me I tell myself GREEN = LIFE!!

Get it as green as you can. It takes awhile to build up tolerance. When you add the green powders do so slowly as your taste buds will most likely need time to adjust.

My carrot juice to me is the nectar of the gods. I kid you not. I love it as much as my hubby and half the world loves their morning coffee (I have never had a sip of coffee in my life!! I cannot stand the smell!)

But my carrot juice ROCKS my world!! most people turn their nose up when they see my drink. Whatever!

    hope this helps.

    peace, emily

    Hi Rodney,

Ground Flax Seeds have cancer fighting properties as well as fiber. It makes it a bit thicker with all the powders and all.

I cannot take Metamucil or most OTC fiber aids since they base it on psyllium and I am allergic to that. I have to be very careful. so I stick to the Flax for those two reasons.

I put Flax Oil in my blueberry smoothies (along with Green Powder and Protein powder).

I also take cod liver oil when I remember! :-)

    Flax is wonderful.

a word of caution...check with your oncologist regarding protein powders and green stuff. I brought the green stuff (can't remember the brand name though) to my oncologist who didn't feel comfortable about the super high levels of nutrients. He wasn't sure how they would interact with the chemo and was concerned that it might negate the effects of chemo.
Having said that...I am going to go out and buy some ( if I can just remember the name of the stuff) and start using it since I'm taking a 2 month break (hopefully longer) from chemo. I've been juicing, but haven't added the green and protein powder.
