TV. A good thing...sometimes.
Lance swears that anything he has achieved in cycling pales beside his fight against this disease. His doc says there is a 1% chance of a reoccurance. That sounds like a cure to me. They showed him riding with sick kids, advocating for his foundation, etc. I was very impressed and intend to read the book.
Now that we have polished off the cheesecake my sister made for her husband's birthday I am swearing off all the ingredients including three kinds of cheese, butter, eggyolks, sugar and 35% cream. It was fun while it lasted--3 days. Oink!

I didn't see 60 minutes, but Lance is an interesting fellow. I was living in France when he came off of the triathlon circuit and was with the Motorola team. Maybe Kanga will remember Phil Anderson (a good Aussie rider); Phil lived down the street from me and was not a happy camper that Lance was stealing his thunder.....and probably his newest masseusse (sp).
Anyway....enough memories...He was always a strong guy mentally and physically and you will enjoy his book - and the Tour! It must be starting within the next week or two. OMG what a sport! Teamwork and strategy that is really something......(I'll forget about the doping problems for the moment). OLN finally carries good coverage for the US fans (thanks to Lance!).....I'll be glued.
Cheers,
Maura
Hey Sponge...do you consider Cycling a sport? I know you are pretty iffy about Golf. There is just as much spandex in football as cycling......0 -
This months Oprah magazine has a good interview with him too. Hey Em, before he goes for a morning training ride, he eats a big bowl of meusli with soy milk. I don't think the pharmaceutical companies will let him talk much about his diet. He only briefly mentions it in his books. In "It's not about the bike", he does say his mother cooked for him while he was in the hosital and she cooked free range chicken. In his second book, "Every second counts", he mentions that his ex wife shops at a health food store for veggies (I could tell it was Whole Foods by the way he decribed the store).
FYI, Robin Williams is one of his closest friends and is usually with him at the Tour.
The Discovery Channel is one of his new sponsors so they will probably have loads about him. I am not sure OLN will be able to show it again this year. You can also go to ESPN.com while the race is going on and get live updates.
If you want to order a yellow bracelet or see what the $45 million he has raised from selling them goes towards, you can go to LAF.com and see all the research grants it sponsors.
As you can see, I am a fan of his. I look forward to seeing what he does for cancer when he works at it full time instead of part time like he does now.

I am a Lance fan and look forward to what he does for cancer when he works at it full time instead of just part time. If you are interested in ordering a yellow bracelet or seeing what the $45 million he has raised from them is going towards, go to LAF.com. You can read about all the research grants it supports too. To those that I sent bracelets too last year, that is where I got them, it's like getting something for your donation.
I don't think his pharmeutical company sponsors let him talk much about his diet but he does mention it in his books. He also mentions that his ex-wife shopped for veggies at a "local healthy supermarket" and I could tell by his description, it was a Whole Foods.
There is an interview with him in this months Oprah magazine. I'm sure Sponger will share his copy for those of you that don't have one. Hey Emily, before his morning training rides, he eats a big bowl of meusli with soy milk.
The Discovery Channel is one of his new sponsors (he is no longer with USPS). so it will probably have great coverage this year. I am not sure OLN will be able to (you know how that stuff goes with sponsors).

I saw it and was impressed as you were, for the same reasons. I learned a lot about him, his disease, and what he's been through. One thing I find interesting is my cousin also had metastatic testicular ca and also survived. He's very overweight since the ca--I thought from the meds he's on. Then after seeing Lance I have to wonder...

Oh, yeah, the French! Gracious as always. They thought he must have been doping when he won the first one. Or perhaps he was not as sick as he pretended. Just a publicity stunt. Still, it is pretty cool that you actually lived in France . What were the circumstances, if I may be so nosy? I grew up in Montreal but they are French Canadian and it was always easy to distinguish them from the frogs in their berets with their noses in the air (like they are smelling la merde)
Aspaysia, who forgets her second language until she goes home. Aqui je mange bien...tres bien. J'suis une vrai cauchon/pig. Oink! It's the same in any language.0 -
I don't think that anyone (other than a few teammates) had any problems with Lance. Europe, both East and West, reveres the sport. And when I was there, he was living in Italy with most of the team.aspaysia said:Oh, yeah, the French! Gracious as always. They thought he must have been doping when he won the first one. Doesn't sound as if you have had the greatest experiences in France. I was treated like an angel (or native) and loved every minute of it. I was able to be there off-and-on for a year and a half. Followed cycling a lot - a great introduction to the sport.
Montreal sounds gorgeous; I would love to visit. British Columbia has been my extent of Canada (and it was very nice).
I am wondering about which station will pick up the Tour, re: Lisa's post. If you hear/see any ads, could you let me know? I'll do the same. I can't think of missing this one!
Cheers,
