Good Morning all.

Well, I did the Relay For Life Sat. into Sunday. What a wonderful, community event to help raise funds for cancer research. We had over 1000 registered walkers. I don't have the official tally, but I know they raised over $120,000. Not bad for their first time.

It was a wonderful, powerful, emotional event. I highly recommend anyone to go to one.

My experience didn't turn out quite the way I had planned, but was still a fantastic experience.

My daughter, who was going to do the walk with me, fell sick to another migraine. She was unable to go at all. ( you have to understand that it was just the 2 of us for Team Rosco. It was goingto be a sort of hang out, bonding thing for us.) So...when she could stay, my 6 yr. old asked if she could. There were quite a few small children there. OK, I say. Needless tosay, I pretty much sat around by the tent as she slept from 1AM till 5:30AM. I really wanted to get out there and walk some more, but I couldn't leave her. I was supposed to be next to a friend of mine, but they messed up the tent sites.

I won't go into it, but a number of things happened that lessened the experience. But..no worries.

I had a great time and more importantly we raised a lot of money.

Great people, Great weather, Great Food, Great Spirit, and Fantastic music. Kudo's to the bands and DJ. ( who had everyone doing the Electric Slide and Conga Lines at 4 AM!!!)

I put a few pictures in the gallery. (laugh till it hurts). I apologize. They didn't come out all that great. I believe my dad took a couple of me, so I'll try and get them for you.

I'm glad you did the Relay. I am headed to Niagara Falls New York for a Relay on Friday to Saturday. I walk for my daughter age 32 with breast cancer and my husband age 52 stage 3C colon Cancer both are one year survivors. My husband cannot make the trip this year as he used all his time off from work getting BETTER. My daughter who is also NED will already be there. I am flying in from Tampa and will let you know how it goes. I am also a survivor and very involved with our Relay here in New Port Richey. We are blessed for our recoveries and we will do all we can to help the ACS find that cure. Louise

    Barb,

I will be involved in a relay for life on 6/17 - 6/18 in Warick,RI. I will be walking with my daughter's company. There are about 20 team members. My husband and 3 kids are all coming. There is a dinner after the survivors walk. I am glad that you wrote about your experience.

Do you have any tips for me, I have never been involved in this before.

    Thanks for sharing your story.

    Hi Maureen,

Well, my first tip is to go with a bunch of people. You've got that covered. Ours was very well organized. Just wear comfy sneakers, bring plenty to drink, food for snacks. The booster club had a BBQ going. Oh, I've got one, if you want to sleep, bring ear plugs. They didn't stop the music once!!! As a matter of fact, they were using the microphone to get everyone up and out on the track!!

Sunscreen, Fun PJ's and slippers. A banner. You want mine? I have no use for it. You can take the team name off. Actually, Louise is doing one this weekend.Maybe we should ask her first? Louise, you want the banner? then we could pass it to Maureen. Hey, we could create a movement. Just keep passing it on. Just a thought. I'll hang on to it for a bit, if no one wants it.

That goes for anyone out in semi-colon land. If Louise or Maureen don't want it, I'd be happy to send it to anyone who does. Just drop me an e-mail.

Most of all, just have fun. You've done the hard work ( collecting donations). This is a time to celebrate. Take pictures.

    Best of luck to you.

    Barb,
I don't have a banner and would be honored to use yours. I would return it after the walk.
    Thanks for the offer.
