A sappy day

I know many are going through a rough time right now and I think of you all often.
I just wanted to share what happened yesterday with all of you on this site.
My daughter graduated yesterday and received her MBA. I am so proud of her. I was crying yesterday even before the ceremony began.
I had flashbacks of 2 years ago when she graduated from college and received her undergraduate degree. I also sat under a tent 2 years ago, frail and weakened from weeks of radiation and continuous chemo that had just ended 2 days earlier. I had surgery still ahead and wondered what my future would be like. Nothing could have prepared me for what lay ahead. Since then I have had more chemo, been hospitalized 10 times, had 3 surgeries and felt like I was tortured. I cried through that first college graduation wondering what was in my future. I again cried through yesterdays graduation, but they were tears of joy.
I have survived this dreaded disease (so far) and am currently NED. I don't know what the future holds for me, but right now I am cancer free 2 years after my diagnosis. Life will never be the same.
For those of you just starting down this terrible journey. It does get better.

Dear Maureen,
Thank you so much for your post. I cannot believe your strength. I am so glad that, yesterday, you were able to shed tears of joy!
I feel like such a novice - so new to the emotions surrounding this demon and the bloody treatments to go with. It really helps to read about a body finally cooperating...and remaining cancer-free.
Best of luck to you and I hope you can enjoy this wonderful time with family! I am thrilled for you.
Cheers,
Maura

Congratulations to you for NED and to you and your daughter for her accomplishments.
I too was diagnosed a little over 2 years ago with 2 daughters in college. One has graduated (last Dec.) and the other graduates this coming Dec. I know the feeling and fear of not being here to see our children make great strides and share that joy.
Now we must fight and be here for all the other milestones.
Congratulations again!!

Maureen, I am so happy for you and I try to think to the future and hopefully hearing one day that I'm NED. I know it's been a long journey for you. It has for us all. You deserve all the happiness you are getting now. We always want to see our children grow up, then it's our grandchildren. I want to see my grandchildren grow up and marry. I want me and my husband to celebrate at least 50 yrs of marriage. It's only 33 now, so I'd be happy for 17 more years. Anyhow, big Congrats and a big hug (((((Maureen))))

Hi Maureen, What a good post! It's great to hear you doing so well. I know the decision about having a colostomy was really hard for you, and I'm so glad to hear how well this has turned out.
I just had my one and a half year check up, and the scans were all clear. I stopped at a garden shop on the way home and was wiping away tears of joy and relief, just to be out picking annuals for my garden. Such an everyday thing now seems so joyous. Sure gives me a different perspective; you are so right when you say life will never be the same.
Wishing us all good days ahead,
Regards, Judy0 -

Congratulations to you both! You have BOTH completed an amazing journey:
You have just completed a remarkable journey
One destined to challenge your courage and test your inner strength.
A journey, perhaps, not lonely;
but one where, at times, you have felt deeply alone.
One in which you have been distressed by your fear of the unknown;
and disheartened by the consequences of reality.
It has been for you, a long voyage over rough seas.
Yet, you have weathered the storm.
You have sailed through the turbulent waters
with a strong will, unshakable faith, and undeniable determination,
proving that you are more than a survivor.
You are a genuine inspiration
to all who must travel their own troubled seas.
True personal triumph is never easily achieved;
however its rewards make the remarkable journey,
remarkably worthwhile.
