Rib pain

I was diagnosed with stage II colon cancer and had surgery in the Fall of 1999. I went through 6 months of chemo (5FU cocktail). I have had back pain (on the left side) for 2 1/2 years. Recent CT and bone scans have been negative. In October, I had what I thought was a bruise in a rib. It has not gone away. Now I have at least 7 other sore spots in my ribs and one on my breast bone. I am scheduled for a Pet scan next week. The onc said these pains might be in my joints. Several pains are on my sides which makes me wonder. It is my understanding that colon cancer usually goes to the lungs and/or liver.

Has anyone had a problem with colon cancer going to the bones? If so, what was your prognosis and treatment?

    I have beeen having the same pains for 2 months,Dr says that is because I'm getting more active after surgery ( surgery was 1/21/05)...I'm not convinced about this. I'm having a CT in 2 days...hopefully they are right.....will let you know

    Good luck to you! I have come to the conclusion that no news is good news when test results are negative.

    My Dad is the one who has colon cancer so I can't relate my pain to that but I have been having rib pain on the right said for several months. Maybe it will help put your mind to ease to know that 3 Dr's have attributed it to a floating rib that moves very easily and seems to want to hook on other "things" in my body. I have had x-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds and bone scans and they can't see anything.

    Thank you. Several different ribs on both sides hurt as well as a bone in my arm and some in my feet. If all of the tests come back negative I should be okay.

    I also had a 5FU cocktail...twice actually. I also had some bone pain. Mainly in my feet and hands. It went away after the chemo and the Dr. said that it can be one of the side effects of treatment. He was hoping the pain was temporary, but said it could be permanent if they used a dosage of the chemo that was too strong. I'm glad mine went away...I hope yours does too.

    I hope you're right. My chemo ended in 2000. The pains in my bones started last October. I don't think I could go through another round of chemo. I lost my hair on the 5FU and had the terrible mouth sores too. Just thinking about it all still makes me sick to my stomach. Good luck to you.
