Mammogram showed spots! 3/05

When i went for my mamo it showed spots. No big worrie the tech. said will have another mamo in 6 mo. That just doesnt do it for me though. Anyone else have a spotty mamo?

    It could be calification that shown up on your mammogram. If you don't feel comfortable waiting 6 months then you should go for a ultrasound and a biopsy. I don't want to scare you but they found a lump in my left breast so they sent me for a mammogram and ultrasound but not a biopsy. The mammogram and ultrasound said it was fine. But it wasn't not fine. I had breast cancerand it was in 4 of my lymph nodes. I waited 6 months before I went back to that doctor (I was still feeling the lump) because she said I was fine. When she felt that same lump she insteadly sent me to a surgeon for a biopsy. I wish she would have done that the first time around for me. I believe if she did a biopsy on the first visit it would not have been in my lymph nodes.

    Ditto Kathy's advice.

    Where I have my mammo's, the radiologist gives a report while you wait. Usually 10 or 15 minutes. They also have a phone number to call, after 2 days, where you can get your full, formal report and as follow up, they mail the report to me in about a week. Since all "spots" are not equal, it's important that you know what they have labeled the spots they saw on your film.

    If they've told you nothing definitive, I'd ring them up and/or call your doctor, after they receive the report, and ask lots of questions. Then, if you feel something isn't clarified, ask your doc about some follow tests such as sonogram, biopsy, etc..

    Thank you both for writing, i will call my dr. sometimes it is hard to understand the causal and coolness of the staff at the cancer center. I havent always gotton along with some of the staff, and yes i have told them and their supervisor. The dr. never has good answers for me. I go there for convience. I try not to worrie but the surgen told me that only god knows how much time, and that my tumor was very bad the lymph node had a tumor too and dont know how far its spread. I have a cat scan March 28th. The surgen also wanted to do a 3rd. lumpextomy and take more lymph nodes but i said no. I felt that i didnt want the 3rd. surgery with all of me. so i will let you know. thanks for asking. pattie

    If mammogram showed spots do not take any chances .My mammogram showed spots in February of 2003 and my doctor ordered an ultra sound and it showed something . I had breastcancer a second time and I also warn you if you have any soreness do not ignore it at all what so ever tell your doctor about it.

    I can only give you advice based on my experience - but here it is. My m-gram showed calcification and the radiologist suggested another m-gram in 6 months. My PCP recommended seeing a breast surgeon rather than wait, which is what I did. The surgeon recommended doing a biopsy rather than waiting - and thank God she did! Although the occurrences are fairly rare, I was diagnosed with DCIS in the right breast and further biopsies detected DCIS in the left breast as well. In my case there were no lumps, just the spots. Two weeks ago today I had a bilateral mastectomy and the pathology reports revealed that there was no invasive cancer in the lymph nodes so it appears that everything was taken care of by the surgery and I will not have to have radiation or chemo. Certainly this was not the path I wanted to take, but I feel so lucky to have gotten good advice from the surgeon and prevented bigger complications down the road.

    Bottom line - get a biopsy! Why spend 6 months waiting, wondering and worrying.

    Mammograms do not always show cancer...nor do ultrasounds. I had both throught the years, and finally (surgeon said I probably had had bc for about 8 years), the mammogram showed the cancerous calcifications. I heard an MRI would have shown the cancer, but they are so expensive that insurance companies frown on the usage.
    I had no lumps...calcifications which turned cancerous.
