I'm writing this e-mail because I need somebody to talk to, My eldest sister was diagnosed last week that she has cancer in the ovary, and it souds terrible to hear that, we're all completely DEVASTATED and still in shock as to speak, the other day her doctors says that it's on Stage 3, all we can do is to cry and try to be more positive as we can, but it's very hard to do that especially on her present situation, we love her so much and shes schedule for an operation next week, she has two beautiful kids ages 2 and 7, they dont deserve to lost their mom, as anyone of you has an ovarian cancer or someone you know with this stage, how come it grows so fast? beside the operation what are the other alternative my sister can do to beat this illness, I hate to say this but what is the survival rate of someone that has a stage 3 ovarian cancer, I'll appreciate any response or comments.
Please if you have some time or if your going to church, pls kindly include my sister to your prayers since we really, really really love her very much. My sisters name is Victoria Yagmourian.
Thank you for all your time

Dear Jun-Jun I am so sorry to hear about your sister. It is devastating when you first find out and you need that time to grieve. You say your sister is at stage3, but she could be still grade1 and that isn't as bad. Have they done surgery yet? I would imagine they have if they have staged her disease already. Was it only in one ovary? My sister and I were both grade3c but hers was in one ovary and not on so many other organs and she is hitting her 5 year mark for being in remission. I on the other hand have not had a remission but have celebrated my 2 year anniversary. Part of it depends on the tumors - mine were poorly diffentiated and they are harder to get rid of. So you have to look at the whole picture once you have it and still that doesn't have any absolutes. I have heard from people at stage 4 that have never had a recurrence and they have been in remission for many years.
Hope this all helps and know we are here for you.

Hi Jun-Jun:
As Bonnie said there is a whole picture to look at. I realize your devastation, hurt and fears. I pray your sister has a good doctor. If so, please bring all of your questions to him. He should be able to give you all the information you need. Otherwise, continue to visit us here. We have all experienced this terrible disease in one way or another. Not knowing the details of your sister's situation, we can't diagnosis. But we sure can offer advice, suggestions, hope and lots of support and TLC.
You can be assured that we'll be praying for you. Please keep us informed. Let me know what part of the US you are in. And just keep coming back as often as you need to.
God's blessings to you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I understand your pain, my mother is going through the same. She has been battling this for the last 2 years. Don't give up! You can support her by going with her to her doctor and chemo visits. Everyone responds differently. You never know what can happen. I just like you asked the same questions at first, because you want to know everything right now and because you are in total shock. Think positive, be strong for your sis! You said she is having surgery? Yes, I know, they will open her up for what is called "debulking", which means, that her physicians will be looking for where the cancer is, and try to remove as much as possible. Whatever they cannot see, this is where the chemo comes in. The chemo will try to kill whatever cancer that the doctors couldn't see. You never know what can happen. Remember think positive, and I will be praying for you and your sister. If I can help you any further, please don't hesitate!0

Don't give up on your sister, whatever the prescribed treatment is! I know a number of survivors who have had long remissions, and are living proof that there is life after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Do your best to be a really positive influence on her!all4mom said:I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I understand your pain, my mother is going through the same. If she doesn't know of a support group already, you could look for one for her. If you call the closest office of the American Cancer Society, I'm sure they will be able to suggest such a group. It really helps to be able to freely discuss a cancer and its effects with people who have knowledge and empathy for the survivor.0 -

I am so sorry to hear about your sister. I was diagnosed w/Stage 3C ovarian cancer 5 1/2 years ago. After extensive surgery and trying most chemotherapies I am now on oral Hexalen and still battling the disease. Your sister needs to get the best medical care available and a care team that she trusts. It isn't easy fighting a cancer that is so aggressive, but hopefully she will be around for a long time. If she can keep positive, and try to keep her stresses to a minimum, it will help her. You all will be in my prayers.0
