vocal chord changes

I finished my radiation therapy three months ago. My voice became very hoarse a month after completion of therapy and is still hoarse and vibrates incorrectly. is this normal?

    my husband finished first part of treatment for nasopharyngeal cancer and i have noticed that his voice has also become hoarse recently. i believe that this is sometines a permanent side affect of head and neck cancers

    My friend has just gone through the same thing as you. He finished his radiation treatnebt in August of 2004 and by October of 2004 he became hoarse as you are describing. He constantly went back to his Doctor to be scoped and everytime he was told not to worry that he was cancer free. A week later he had an appointment with an Internal Medicine Dr. That Doctor wanted him to have a baseline Cat Scan done, unfortunately this Cat Scan revealed a mass on the same vocal cord. An immediate biopsy was performed and his cancer had gone from stage 1 to stage 3 after 35 radiation treatments. Have you had a cat scan done? My friend is doing great now I hope you are to and I certainly hope that your cancer has not returned as his had. We finally did alot of research and decided to take him to another state to a Doctor that specializes in Voice Preservation surgery. The Doctors in the state that we live in wanted to do a total laryngectomy and he is only 34 years old. This Doctor is wonderful and if you would like more info please contact me. He had his surgery in January of this year and he says he feels better than he has in 2 years. My advice to you would be to make sure you get cat scans or pet scans to make sure the cancer is not recurring. I hope everything is well with you. Good Luck!!!!!!!
