ANYONE HAD GASTRECTOMY CHEMO & RAD. ONLY TO HAVE TUMOR COME BACK IN SAME SPOT?

MY DAD WAS DIAGNOSED WITH STOMACH CANCER IN 2000--HE HAD PART OF HIS STOMACH REMOVED(THE DR. SAID HE GOT IT ALL AND CLASSED IS A STAGE 2 BECAUSE IT HAD INVADED OUTSIDE WALL WHICH HE "SCRAPED OFF" MY DAD ENDURED CHEMO AND RADIATION AND DID GREAT--HE MAYBE ONLY LOSS 2 POUNDS-THE CRUEL CANCER IS BACK AND HE HAD BEEN BACK TO RUNNING GOLFING ETC. ITS BACK IN THE SAME SPOT AND HAS BEEN TOLD HE CANT HAVE RADIATION, SURGERY, ONLY POISONOUS CHEMO TO PROLONG HIS LIFE WHICH HAS BEEN NOT MUCH OF LIFE BECAUSE OF THE CHEMO SIDE EFFECTS NOT TO MENTION HE HASNT HAD A BITE OF FOOD OR DRINK IN ALMOST A YEAR--HE HAS A J-TUBE FOR FOOD(ENSURE TYPE DRINKS THAT GO DIRECTLY INTO INTESTINES--HE CONSTANTLY HAS TO SPIT IN A CUP BECAUSE HIS SALIVA HAS NOWHERE TO GO BECAUSE THE NASTY TUMOR IS BLOCKING THE OPENING OF HIS STOMACH SO THAT IT CANT EMPTY. WATCHING HIM GO FROM A YOUNG HANDSOME MAN TO WHAT THIS HRRIBLE DISEASE HAS DONE IS JUST UNBEARABLE. THE CANCER IS ONLY IN THIS SPOT. ANYONE WITH A SIMILAR STORY WOULD BE SO VERY HELPFUL.

    Zellars,
    so sorry to hear of your Dad's recurrence. Where is your Dad being treated? Is he able to get a second opinion at a major cancer center? You might find some others with similar experiences at www.acor.org There is a stomach cancer list serve group there with a number of survivors participating. It is a good source of infomation in addition to ACS. I it so hard to watch a loved one suffer. My heart goes out to your and your dad.

    Hi, my name is Paul, 39, from Hockessin, Delaware. I was diagnosed with stomach cancer (a tumor half the size of my stomach) in June 2003. I went to the University of Texas' M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. It is the number 1 cancer research and treatment centers in the nation and the world. I underwent 6 months of chemo (carboplatin, taxol and 5-fu) from Sept. 2003 to February 2004. By April 2004, the tumor was gone and the cancer that had spread to the liver, transverse colon, diaphragm and abdominal wall is all gone. I was on a J-tube feeding tube from August 2003 to December 2003 but was taken out when I attained a regular weight of 140 pounds. I do exactly what the oncology department told me. I drink green tea, eat brocolli, tomatoes, cran-grape juice and almonds every day.

    My wife and I can not say enough about M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. There is an oncology department for each organ in the body and a floor for each organ. The center is made up of 12 hospitals, I believe, from cancer treatments for infants to the elderly and even a veterns hospital. Our e-mail is rescue26@msn.com if you want to contact or call us.

    My husband had a gastric resection last Feb. The dr. thought it was very successful. He never had a feeding tube. He lost 1/3 of the stomach and 2/3 of the esophagus. Well the cancer returned to his liver in August. He underwent an RFA. That seemed successful until this past Dec when scans showed a return to the liver and now also to the abdominal cavity. I am very interested in your experience. We live in NYC area. Why did you pick Texas over Sloan. Who was your Doctor? I will email you also.
