total thyroidectomy recovery

I just had my thyroid removed las thursday. I'm feeling very sluggish and extremely tired. I just started cytomel yesterday. How long does it take to recover from the surgery and start feeling like myself again? I still haven't gotten the radiation treatement yet and am scared because I have a one year old and a four year old. Can I be around them? I am so new to this stuff. It just seems surreal that I was diagnosed with cancer.

I also could not believe that it was Cancer. That was five years a go. the recovery does not take long. Most of what you will feel is the affect of no thyroid. My arms felt so heavy and that was because of no thyroid. Once on Synthroid all went away. When you have the treatment you will have to stay away from your children. For me it was twelve days that I could not be around chidren or pregnant woman.0
