The Cause of Kidney Cancer?

My husband passed away last year, at age 51, from kidney cancer. It seems his problems began (with urinary frequency) 3 months after he started the cholesterol lowering drug Pravachol (which has been found to cause adenocarcinomas in laboratory animals). Unfortunately, he did not exhibit the "classic" symptoms (although he experienced many medical problems during the year that followed which were not normal for him) and was not diagnosed (stage IV) until a year later. I realize the cause of kidney cancer is unknown but is there anyone else on this site who was diagnosed while taking (or previously taking) a statin drug? My doctor dismissed my theory but in light of what's been going on with Vioxx (heart attacks) and zoloft (suicides), I can't help but wonder.

Dana, Thanks you for your condolences. I never thought this would happen to us. My husband, Ron, was extremely health conscious. I will do as you suggest. I did contact the drug company to inquire as to which specific adenocarcinomas were discovered in lab testing but of course, they never answered me. I really didn't expect them to. Thanks again.

Aud, I doubt the drug companies would admit their knowledge in that case. My husband's name is Ron, too, and he takes statin drugs. I had no idea about their ability to cause adenocarcinoma. I am recuperating from endometrial adenocarcinoma surgery and awaiting radiation therapy. I was a stage 1b, grade 2. My mom had renal cell carcinoma, which I wrote about down on the thread entitled Stage IV RCC. She actually survived, and we still don't know how that happened!
