Hi all you awesome semi-colons,
I think and pray for you often and today it was in the shower. I was thinking about what really kept me going through my darkest hours in the past three years. Basically it was God. Sure my family was supportive and wonderful (for the most part), and friends were there (most of the time) and I journaled and went in for counseling....but the real strength I derived was not from my carrot juice but from God.
This is the scripture that I wrote on my wall above my bed:
"'I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,' declares the Lord."
Jeremiah 30:17
Actually I covered my whole wall with scriptures that people sent me for comfort or that spoke to me when I read the Bible... whatever.
I just wanted to share this with you. I hope it will bring some comfort to someone today.
Please share your favorite scripture with us. I would love to read what has comforted y'all in your darkest moments.
It doesn't even have to be scriptural....anything....please share!! :-)
peace, emily who is 2bhealed!!

Emily,
What a beautiful message! I do my best thinking, praying and crying in the shower. I agree with you that God has carried me through these tough years and will carry me through the next few as well.
I loved your scripture. I would like to add my verse, given to me by my father last year at Thanksgiving. It hangs over my desk and computer.
Today.....
for yesterday I hold no apologies,
for tomorrow I offer no answers,
Today is a gift: I will honor it by fully living in it. by Maryann Radmacker
There have been scriptures also which have brought me through the fire. I have them put away at the moment, but will gladly share them.
Thank you.

Emily, how very beautiful. While as a whole I have never been a very religeous person, my faith in God and miracles has always been strong and I have always felt that no matter where you have your conversations with Him, He hears you. So I talk to Him daily...sometimes in the car in bumper to bumper traffic (it's real soothing)....in my office at work.....while taking a walk...in the garage at night...and yes, sometimes even in prayers at the close of a day. He hears me and listens and although he may not always give me the answers that I want, His reasons will be known to me one day.
My favorite saying has and always will continue to be the old AA motto...."God, grant me the strength to change the things I can, the courage to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference." I've also taken a real liking to another one that I repeatedly see on another cancer board. For some reason, it has struck a cord with me and I will share it with all of you now. "As long as I know the WHO
I can bear any HOW
even though I don't know WHY"
Hugs,

A quote I have held dear ever since high school (that's what? 3 or 4 years now??)... Has even greater meaning to me now that I've been sick:
"What lies behind you, and what lies before you are tiny matters compared to what lies within you." - Ralph Waldo Emmerson
I can tell you all that we know too well the struggle that lies behind us, and none of us knows what may lie before us, but I do know that hearts of gold lie within each of you. Thank God for the wonderful people here; for your strength, compassion, warmth, humor, joy, and friendship. (sniff)

Thank you for the beautiful post.

Kanga used to teach sunday school here years ago(that is religious instruction for children) and also what we called Christian Endeavour(12-16 y/o).When my parents died I admit that I kind of lost faith a little--they were taken from me and I wanted to know why?
But there is a god Emily--a spirit, a power, an energy--no matter what religion in my mind. Now I believe that my parents are with me every day and one day I will see them again.
My favourite quotes are not from the scriptures but in my heart and mind. They are available to all here who need them.
"If you have lost a loved one know that my mum and dad have them in their arms"
"at the end of each rainbow sent by kanga is not gold but something far better---love"
To all my friends here,
"amigos para siempre"----friends for life!

Hi Emily, That was a beautiful verse. I, too, know that God has brought me through. Along, with family and every one here. I didn't think, for a while, that I was going to make it. In fact, at one point while I was in ICU on the ventilator, I wrote a note to my family and told them that if they were keeping me a live to let me go. Needless to say, it broke their hearts. I didn't mean to do that. I just wanted to make things easier for them. My son has already said that he will never let me go, so I don't have his name on my living will or power of attorney. I have my daughter and husband. I have several verses taped above my computer that really help me. They are Job 5:19(Living Bible)He will deliver you again and again, so that no evil can touch you.
Isaiah 41:13(Living Bible)I am holding you by your right hand-I, the Lord your God-and I say to you, Don't be afraid; I am here to help you.
I also have a poem called Every Day which talks about God giving you the courage to face just this day, one day at a time. And, I also, have a poem called I Refuse to be Discouraged, which really helps me. It talks about God too.
Thanks for making me think about these and what's important. I love you girl.
Love and prayers, Judy(grandma047)0
