After being considered cancer free for 7 yrs, I found out in January that it had recurred in my bones/liver/lung lining. I stopped Tamoxifen 1.5yrs ago and the Dr. began monthly bone treatments with Zometa and Femara at that time. Initially Femara seemed to push things back but after 5 months, tumor markers going back up. Hormone therapy was switched from Femara to monthly Faslodex injections. Now must wait another few months to see if this works.

Has anyone been in a similar situation??
Did Faslodex work?
Suggestions please.
Thanks,
Donna

Hi Donna sorry to here about the recurrenc. I understand you were taking Tamoxifen, I assume 5 years then switched to Femara. I also was taking Tamoxifen for 41/2 years then the Doctor switched me to Femara in May of this year. Boom Friday(Aug.27th) I found out I have a was on my Liver. I am also is was almost a 3 year survivor of Colon Cancer. This Oct I would have been a 5 year survivor of breast cancer. I am waiting for plan of care for the Mass, I don't know what will be stop or even if I can have any kind of treatments. I hope I made sense still inshock about the mass on my liver.

Livin sorry to hear about your latest problem - stay positive and be strong.
I was looking for someone who was on famara and then switched to faslodex, I'm concerned about the faslodex because it's only a once/month injection. Now I have to wait 2 months to see if its working - for another blood test. Sometimes its hard to have patiences.
Hope you hear some positive news at your next doctors visit.

I was on Tamoxifen for about 9 months when my bone and lung mets were discovered. I went off the tamoxifen and began monthly aredia(like zometa, it strengthens bones) and daily femara. Only one month into femara, tumor markers have doubled, but I have been told to be patient - errrrrr! I had a second opinion at City of Hope and that doctor mentioned switching to faslodex if the femara hasn't helped me in a couple of months. He also mentioned Zometa instead of Aredia (mainly because it only takes 20 minutes to inject vs. the 1 1/2 hour drip of Aredia). Basically, treating cancer is an art, not a science. It works if it works for you! They say that once it gets into the bones, breast cancer doesn't spread quickly, so you have time. Do what I do - a couple times a day, I concentrate on killing the cancer cells - with good wishes, prayers, medicine, etc. It makes you feel empowered and I think the cancer is listening. It's a part of your body, right? Take charge and tell it what you need it to do!
