breast reconstruction

I had a L mastectomy with silicone reconstruction in 1996. I have never been at all happy with the results. The implant which is 400cc looks like a huge misshapen blob high on my chest, it is not even circular. Now I am considering a prophlactic mastectomy on my R side with new reconstruction of both sides. The MD said that he could reduce the size of the implant and lower it on my L. Any tips from anyone out there for getting a better result? It seems as though they ought to have some techniques for simulating breasts better. I have also considered a DIEP flap, however the scarring seems so extensive.... feedback is appreciated.

Hi,
I had a right mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in 1990 using a silcone implant. Because of contracture (scar tissue build-up) I had the implant done twice. But I am pleased with the result and have had no problems. Did your plastic surgeon show you pictures of successful patients? Did he explain why your implant looks the way it does? Did he give you names of other patients to talk with? If not, maybe you need to get another opinion from another plastic surgeon. I have seen implants that look totally natural. Everyone's body reacts differently, but your surgeon should be able to explain all that to you to your satisfaction. Ask lots of questions and get answers or find a doctor that will answer them. Hope this helps.
God Bless,
