Bone loss

It'll be 2 yrs. 9/04 since my b/c. It was a stage 2 had a lot of problems, but things are starting to look up. My dr. called today and said that I had alot of bone loss, I'm taking arimidex and she said this and chemo was the cause. She prescribed a pill I will have to take the pill once a week as long as I take arimidex. I'm thinking about quitting (arimidex) and see what happens. I would like to hear some replys and see what you think. God Bless you.

hi pads, I finished my chemo in May 2003 and went on Arimidex that same month so it's been just over a year for me. I also suffer the bone loss and have been taking Fosamax once weekly since August 2003. I always considered myself lucky that my cancer was ER+ and that there were drugs, like Tamoxifen, Arimidex or Femara for me to take for additional protection against recurrance. Even if you stop taking the Arimidex, the loss of bone density won't correct itself. I look at the inconvenience of taking medication and battling a non-fatal condition, like osteoporosis, a small price to pay for the peace of mind the Arimidex gives me. Good luck with your decision.

Hi pads. I also have bone loss due to the chemo and being thrown into menopause. I am now on the Fosamax once a week. I also take the Arimidex. You have to think of it as part of your therapy and treatment. I am also thankful that because we are ER or PR + there is this extra precaution we can take to prevent recurrance. If the bone loss is your only side effect, I wouldn't give it up. Continued good luck to you.
