Hi....my husband is 62 and just had the whipple 8/27/04 and he has the same breath taking pains that make him break out in a cold sweat and double over. Glad we are not alone. Hope it gets better for you.SusanTS said:Hello...my father had the Whipple Operation done in March.....and he has said that he gets those attacks often....he hasn't done anything about them....but I thought I'd let you know that it does occur in others..

mine was sept 2003! I have recently gone on the John Hopkins site and found alot of interesting info on this topic. It sounds pretty usual. Its nice to know that we are not alone.punkymay said:Yep! I have those sharp, stabbing pains too. My oncologist said they were muscle spasms. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. My Whipple was 10/14/2004. When was yours?

Hello,
I have a friend who had Whipple four years ago. She said she had been suffering from bad pain in lower abdomin all the time these years and she relied heavily on painkillers. Can anyone tell me how you get through the pains? Any advice will be appreciated.

I have had 2 major ones
I have had 2 major ones before joining a facebook group called Whipply Surgery Survivor Group. This topic is talked about alot. The one thing that has helped me is as soon as I feel the tightness in my stomach (to the side) I stand up and stretch my arms above my head and take slow deeps breaths. Most the time i can ward them off. But my bad ones only lasted about a minute. Takes your breath away. Drenched in sweat from the pain immediately.
