Hi I still have alot of problems with my memory after chemo. I have just started taking Ginkgo Biloba which is supposed to help. Has anyone tried this or have any other suggestions for improving memory? Thanks

Depending on how long it has been after chemo, you're memory should be improving as time goes on. I was told by a learning disabilities specialist, that it is common after chemo for cancer patients to have problems with memory, and more specifically, short term memory. She explained though, that with time, it improves. I believe her. Even though i still have some rough times with short term memory, (though I cant tell if i had that before or after chemo :-P), I can tell that my memory is better because I can retain more information now in school than I did when I completed my chemo and went back to school. It's been 6 years since chemo for me.
Hope this helps!

Hi Pickles!
....Umm..... I forgot what I was gonna say!.... just kidding! But seriously... memory and chronic fatigue, while different for each person, can last very long times and seem to be the most common long term side effects as I have seen here at CSN. I was diagnosed with leukemia at 21.... I am now thirty and still have memory and fatigue issues... and NO.. I dont have senior moments! I have not tried this Ginko stuff or others... maybe I should try it... I suggest discussing this with your cancer doc. Take care!

Thanks for the responses. Amber, I have been taking it for a month now and have noticed a slight improvement. I also asked a doctor about memory and he said that the more you use your brain the better it gets. "Use it or lose it" Neurons can always make new connectors in the brain. Good luck!0
